hawkanddog 0
We are after another dog and the wife has sort of agreed to an Irish Terrier. Anyone, owned and worked one? What are your thoughts on the breed... Quote Link to post
david2363 42
I knew a lad years ago who "worked" one, and it was a great dog hunting in cover. There is one which gets walked on my local park and its a feckin bad barsteward with other dogs and a bit of a handfull for its owner. Quote Link to post

Guest oldskool
might be more down to poor training rather than a bad dog??? Quote Link to post
jacob 28
might be more down to poor training rather than a bad dog??? red devils they used to call em theyre more youre one man one dog ,the ones that are properly bred anyway ,game as hell and dont like other dogs, im sure that going way back in irish history they used to match em, when times were hard to earn a bit of extra money. hawkanddog 0
Thanks for the info. Been to look at a litter today, but hey there asking 500 quid a pup, seems an awful lot dosh. There quite leggy, bitch is about 18 inches and never been worked. Quote Link to post
jpt 284
i hav got one mate and he is a smart dog. he is 20 at the shoulders and a solid build all round. you could not get one to go to ground though because they are to big. he is a bit of twat with other terriers though. my mate has got a beddy and they fight everytime and its him who starts it. top dogs like but not really working dogs if you know what i mean. mine has had rabbit and one rat but thats it upto now. Guest Frank
Their a good dross with a greyhound. The 3/4 hound 1/4 Irish terrier are deadly on hare/fox. If, you get the right cross that is. Frank. Quote Link to post
jpt 284
have you seen any frank? i was thinking about breeding the next time i want a pup but i would also need a greyhound. anyway i think they would make a sound lurcher because my irish terrier has got loads of stamina and he has one hell of a fire burning in his belly! you would get the coat aswell and like you say for the bigger stuff they would excell i'm sure.
