GarryN 5
Put the fuse back it is a saftey device and could set the lot on fire, you are better to miss a nights lamping then burn a lamp out because of no fuse. PUT IT BACK. Quote Link to post

GarryN 5
So if its a load of bollocks I wonder why they put a fuse in, the bulb is not a fuse and won't always blow the bulb, but you do what you think is the correct solution..... Quote Link to post

no ban 1
Back in the 80s i had a lamping battery the ones in the metal orange carry case catch fire, after taking fuse out all blue flames, but the bad thing was, we had just drove nearly 55 miles, we had 1 run on a rabbit, then the box caught fire. I would personally keep a fuse in.. Quote Link to post

oggy808 24
if you do go without fuse keep watch on the wire ,if it heats up you could be in trouble !!!!! Quote Link to post
Guest arch1
The Fuse is there for a reason, it's the weak link in the circuit. If something goes wrong with your lamp, the fuse should blow. If the fuse is removed, something else becomes the weak link. If you then get a fault, who knows what will burn out. How many people using lamps without fuses, take thier house fuses out? Quote Link to post
Skinny 29
a mate of mine was advised one night to wrap his blown fuse in silver papper set his jacket on fire same fella swithced the 50watt bulb for a 100 watt in his clu lite la4 and melted the reflector. One thing is a fuse is cheaper than a bulb most of the laps now have fuse in the socket as well as one on the battery pack. I just tape everything up well and try to carry a second lamp and battery in the car when heading far from home. also a wee head torch is handy for emergenies. Quote Link to post
chartpolski 24,047
The thing with lamps is you want the least number of joints/connections possible; less to go wrong !! I cut off all the fuses, cigar type connectors, etc , and connect the two lamp wires directly to the battery, then tape them over with electrical tape, so they don't come loose and also to prevent anything accidently falling across the terminals and shorting them out. Never had a problem yet ! But one thing to remember; if you cut the fuse, or anything else , from your new lamp, you will void the warranty ! Cheers. Quote Link to post
