Is domestic heating oil the same as red diesel? Or rather can red be used to run a domestic central heating boiler with no modification? TOMO 26,458 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Share Posted October 31, 2010 no its not the same,, DONT put cherry in your heating tank,,, that has to be keraseane. some diesel engine cars 4x4 will run on heating oil ........... aparantly, but you have add a little engin 1 ltr to 10 ltr of kerrasean... i have to keep turning our heating off it gets fecking stiffling... its a shame its so expensive now 40 odd pence a litre .. when i first moved here it was 17p happy days Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Farmers get to use it because it's not taxed as much as regular Diesel, but if you use it in your car, the tank will get stained and the Bizzies can tell and you get sent to prison for 100 years. I would think Heating oil is different, and i would't want to feck my boiler up by using it. I suppose Red is massivly cheaper than the oil? As per all things the govenment does to "Help" Us. It consists of a mixture of petroleum-derived hydrocarbons in the 14- to 20-carbon atom range. That is, heating oil's chemical formula is usually either C14H30, C15H32, C16H34, C17H36, C18H38, C19H40, or C20H42. During oil distillation, it condenses at between 250 and 350 °C (482 and 662 °F). Heating oil condenses at a lower temperature than the heavy (C20+) hydrocarbons such as petroleum jelly, bitumen, candle wax, and lubricating oil, which condense between 340–400 °C (644–752 °F). TOPPER 1,809 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Share Posted November 1, 2010 the answer is they are not the same but you can run your cenral heating on cherry but if you use kero [heating oil] in the disco add oil to it as kero has no upper cylinder lube and will fck your head, anyway you don t need central heating its not cold your just a soft townie just use the wood burner or is your boyfriend winging cuddle up closer!!!! The woodburner only warms one room of my mansion! Yes, I am a soft townie, of that there's no doubt, remember though, I haven't got as many layers this year to keep me warm lol Just to clarify, it's not my Discovery I want to use it in, I'm asking can I use normal vehicle grade derv (red or white) in my central heating tank, will it work the same with no damage? The reason I'm asking ......... is because the minimum delivery size of heating oil I can have is 500 litres @ around £250, have just checked down the back of the sofa (which I also haven't got!) and there ain't £250! Whereas ............ I can buy derv as and when I need it and as and when I've got spare cash, and just top the tank up, like a sort of pay as you go .......... 25 litres or more at a time. iamduvern, no idea what all those numbers mean mate, but thank you for looking. I am guessing its probably down to the fuel intake, injectors or fuel pump. im no expert mate and you maybe right my convoy runs well on bio-fuel (used chip fat mixed with chemicals) but i would never use heating oil in it now just not worth the risk of f*****g the engine up!! but off topic now atb Quote Link to post Share on other sites
