Millet 4,497
Get yourself to your local clay pigeon shooting club and blow a few hundred cartridges off on the angles you are struggling with, you will sharp notice the difference. Quote Link to post

watchman 256
hi all bee n out today and really struggled hitting birds coming straight to the hide, did ok with crossers but could,nt hit the birds coming like a driven bird any tip,s anyone can you see the bird when you pull the trigger? i shoot both eye,s open and if i,m honest i can alway,s see the target so if they are coming straight to the hide your shooting under the bird then, resulting in a miss, follow through the bird blocking it out then fire, your actually shooting something that you cant see if that makes sense,if you think your blocking it out but admitting you can still see the bird then you are taking your cheek off the stock maybe also resulting in a miss. listen mate im far from expert and have my fair share of bad days, some bloody awful to be honest im just trying to help out as iv been through all this myself,a more experienced shooter may well be able to explain it easier than i can,as said get up and bang a few clays should put you on the right track,i spent a day at a local club hitting in coming rising birds and the springing teal is also a good shot to get the hang of Quote Link to post
fozzy41 9
Watchman is right mate. When you get a driven bird you need to get the bead at the end of the gun under the bird then pull through it and block it out. By doing this you are pointing the barrels straight at the bird rather than the bead cos if you point the bead at it you will shoot under it. Try this test. Put a mark on a board,(somewhere where it is safe to do so)and at the same distance that you are shooting pigeons at, say 15-20 yards, point the bead at the mark and shoot. You will see that most of the pellets will have shot under the mark. Now make another mark and repeat the same but putting the bead on the mark and then raising the bead until the mark is blocked out with the barrels and then shoot. You will see that the mark and surrounding area will be covered in pellets. When shooting at flying birds or clays you have to learn to (pull through) and keep the gun moving rather than blocking the bird out and stopping, because when you think about it, the bird hasn`t stopped moving, so why should you.? When shooting left to right or vice versa it can be decieving to give the bird too much lead and shoot in front. I find that modern day cartridges, (i use 30gr clear pigeon) are really fast and shooting at the birds head is more than enough lead. Hope this helps Fozzy Quote Link to post
