Gaz_1989 9,539
How many of you had experienced serious accidents in the field? I don't mean the odd cut on barbed wire or a minor running injury, I mean something that has amost lost you the dog or worse still killed the dog? I was looking into insurance the other day, I've decided to go for it but was just wondering how often working dogs get seriously hurt? Gaz. Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
Seen a few horific ones to be honest over the years, The worst i saw was back in 06/07 running afew rabbits when the dog hit one of the pipes, You know the ones they place on top before there dug in, Well smashed shoulder and broken back leg in two places on the same side, What a mess and the poor dog hardly made a whine that was PTS that night.... Loads of ones like running woodland area and dogs have bad rips i dont mean skin tears i mean half impaled on broken trees/branchs ect tat anit a pretty site some of them, A good mate lost his dog last season (Jo54 on here) dog broke his neck on a bit of chicken wire running along a fence/hegde line type thing, And only tuesday my bitch hit a tree that had been fallen at full tilt and to be honest iam am very surprized she never died there and then with the inpacted she hit it, but she should make a 100% recovery in time, And countless minor things that needed nothing more than a staply or two or a bit of stiching....... And thats not evening getting in to some of the terrriers iv been out with....... Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Over the past 8 years i've lost three and seriously injured another. Never had such a bad run BUT this 'ol dog game is never easy, sooner or later a injury or worse is gonna happen. Something we all should be prepared for. Get yourself insurance if you value your dog and remember, if you belive in what you do, no matter what the setback, it's hunting that counts, so get back in the saddle... soon as poss!
