Hello Darren and welcome to the forum :gunsmilie:

It would not put me off buying it, if I had never used a mildot system before, but now having shot with a 30/30 ret and then a mildot, I would rather get a mildot

30/30's are fine if you can learn the differances in ranging, and relate them to the posts on the ret, however Mildots do have the advantage in my opinion.

I always thought that I was happy with my 30/30 scope until I learnt how the mildots are used and I now considder them to be a snipers best friend :D

Guess its all down to personal preferance.

hi Darren

if ya using .22 get a mil dot scope,i started with a 30/30 ret and a .22 rifle and found a lot of guess work came in to play,if ya have a mil dot then you know you will be spot on every time at given ranges!!

Good luck in ya quest!

An alternative to the mildot system is the Specialized Reticule (SR) which you can get on some of the Hawke scopes which are brilliantly demonstrated by Nick Jenkinson on these 3 videos this is the 1st in the series of 3:-

I bought the Hawke Nite-Eye 4-16x50 IR AO SR6 scope brand new for £120 and really pleased with it.

Ta,

Dave.

Mil dots or not, the scope you're looking at is a lovely bit of kit but it's not ment for airgun use.

The focus will be out on higher mag at the ranges we shoot at and the PX is set for CF guns, not airguns.

Look at something else, mate.

Cheers.

Why would the focus be out ?

The advert states that the parallex is set at 35 yards.

Does it?

Fair do's then I got that one wrong, if that's the case. :icon_redface:

The Monarch range used to be full bore stuff but if they've done an airgun scope then that must be the one you're looking at if it's PX set for 35 yards.

Very good quality bit of kit

For what it's worth, I use 30-30 and mil dots on airguns and I find the 30-30 easier for me but then I am an old bugger who's probably too set in my ways.

Cheers.

Have a look at Uttings advert on the internet.

I value your opinion and dont want to buy a lemon.

I'm with andyfr1968 on this one. I'm thinkng of taking up Uttings offer on this scope and getting one for my TX200 .22 standard rifle. I too am an old bugger set in my ways and duplex, 30-30 reticles work for me just as well as mildots. If the paralax of this Monarch is set at 35 yards, it'll do just right by me. ;)

Go get it mate!

Hi darren,

The scope that you are talking about is a real cracker of a scope buddy.

For me though who has shot with a 30/30, mil dot and SR reticule, I would always go in this order when buying to hunt with:

SR12

Mildot

30/30.

The Sr and mildot reticules will give you precise aiming if you do your work first and calibrate it correctly.

A 30/30 will give you a gestimate.

For hitting a 55 metres KZ the size of a pigeons or squizzers, gestimation isnt an option in my personal opinion.

Add the fact wind, human shooting error, angle of shot etc with a 30/30 ret and you are asking for trouble.

Been using the Nikon Monarch for the last 3 years on my AA410c & it's a quality scope. It's set to be parallax free at 30 yds.Only thing is you may need to shim it at a 30yd zero to keep the elavation turret centralized to keep the pressure off the spring(s).Optically it's up there with the top end scopes(imo) & it's a great lamping scope.

Shamelessly to add i'm selling mine in the optics forum on here :icon_redface::icon_redface: i don't use the peashooter now with me shooting rimfire :gunsmilie:
