THE GRIFF 8
I have only had my shotgun licence since the beginning of this year and am planning to go for my FAC in the next week or two. I have today asked 2 of my permissions if they would authorise me permission to shoot a 22lr on thier land and they said yes. They both have people shooting 22lr rifles already on the land and are pretty sure the land has been passed by the police for the 22lr. Both permissions are on the moors and one is about 90 acres, the other acres, both have hills and decent back stops. My first question is if I was to put in for a fac air rifle, a 22lr and a 17hmr do you think I would get all 3 with it being the first time I have applied for a FAC? I do understand different police forces are all different in each area , some being more strict than others, my local police force would be Cleveland police, and I am under the impression they often give open licences on first grant of a licence, but would this many rifles be taken the pi55. I do have a valid reason for each calibre riffle for different situations. Would also putting a 22 hornet down be pushing it as well, presuming the permission is passed for this riffle, or would I be better going for the FAC air and the rimfires first and then putting in for the 22 hornet in 12 months or so when have some experiance with the rimmy's first(presuming I got the rimmy's in the first place) One part of me thinks put them all down, he can only say yes or no, and the other half of me is saying dont take the pi55. What riffles am I likely to get granted first time with not alot of experiance with rimfires/centrefires?(I am very safety aware and can get a referance from someone with a FAC to say I have been out with them and used there rifle safley and accuratley) Your thoughts would be much appreciated and any info from past experiances from other people in a simular situation would be a great help. Terryorr 27
If it was me, I would put in for the .22 hornet 1st as if that was the only rifle I was interested in, then if that was approved I would apply for the other smaller calibers later, they wouldn,t be able to turn you down for smaller calibers once the .22 hornet was issued. But then again, your Constabulary may be different from mine. CHEERS. Edited October 28, 2010 by Terryorr 1 Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i had all those 3 on 1st ticket. as long as you can state why you want the 3 there should be a problem. fac air for vermin around the farm and in the trees where you wouldnt use rimfire. 22lr for vermin on the ground and hmr vermin on the ground but at longer ranges. you could also state you like to use the 22lr at night as its very silent. and in the day when you want more range the hmr is better as you cant allways getting to range with the 22lr in day. DogMagic 461
FAC airrifle, 22 rimmy, hornet, 17. Why? The airrifle is capable of less than the rimmy but makes a fair bit of noise still when fac rated and rickochets just as bad AND cost a bloody lot of dosh. A hornet isnt THAT much more powerfull than a rimmy really but i still wouldnt rate them for foxes. If it was me, and this is what i DID do was apply for a 22 rimmy for rabbits and other vermin, a 22.250 for foxes and vermin and a 7x57 and a 30.06 for deer. I was granted all 4. However i had had a shotgun for a few years first with no incidents AND had passed the dmq 1. If you want to deal with all possabilities you should go for a 22 rimmy, a 22.250 and a 243 for deer. 243 is legal for all deer. I personally dont feel its man enough for a sika stag in mid rut though. Quote Link to post

FAC air would be for around the caravans, 22lr bunny bashing, 17hmr longer distance bunny bashing when its not windy and the 22 hornet would be for long distance bunnies and the odd fox. If i was granted the 22 hornet I would not bother getting the 17hmr. Quote Link to post
markha 99
I had a similar conversation with my areas FEO. Upshot of which was .22lr .17hmr and .223 for fox, North Wales police wont put fox on the license for any calibre smaller than .223. FAC air - waste of time and money, just stick to 22 rimmy 17hmr and try for a 223 for fox, just ask the FEO when he comes around again. Quote Link to post
unlacedgecko 1,466
I had my shotgun licence for 6 months before applying for my FAC. Was granted multi shot semi auto shotgun, .22lr and .243 on first licence. They are all Chief Constable approved land only at the minute, but have been told that that will be re-assessed after 3yrs. I did complete my DSC 1 whilst the application was being processed. This was with Essex Police. Ug Quote Link to post
