Ideation 8,216
Nothing wrong with using a locator, but there's nothing wrong with not using one either.. Very true Mal. I use locators just in case but never have to dig, my jills only kill when they have to which is very rare and come straight out as soon as they have killed. I think the locator has led or derived from (in some ways) a lack of patience. Many folk whip out the locator too soon. . . . . if they waited the ferret would work the rabbit out often, or a second ferret would shift it. I wonder how it effects a ferrets working ability or style always digging to it. As i always wait mine do usually shift the rabbit out, even if they have to drag it out of a stop end by its arse so that it turns and bolts or dig over the top of it to push it out. I get VERY few underground kills each season. Maybe a handful. Those who i ferret with don't use them and to be fair they don't lose ferrets. I like to keep them on just in case but the locator stays at the bottom of my bag for that one occasion when they just don't come back up and have got themselves stuck. Just my opinion. They have a place, just shouldn't replace all the old methods. . . . like having patience! Quote Link to post

There's no point running around with the receiver bleeping as soon as you enter the ferrets is there? I give them a good while to work before I think about switching it on. Quote Link to post

Malt 379
So its another landslide victory for locator users again then The thing is though pal, why should there be a victory for either? There's no competition, we're all ferreters no matter what kit we use or don't use Quote Link to post
jackwhippet 3
I went out and bought a locator after being stood waiting for nearly two hours for ferret to surface it was more for the fact that I cant afford to lose the only working ferret I possess at the minute Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
hAD EIGHT rabbits last weekend and fourteen this week with no digs. Idont collar up but i do use small ferrets. I have a locator and another ferret at the ready but to be honest i havent needed to use it . When they work free they can slip through thenets and into another hole without tangles and snags. Nothing worse for spoiling a ferret Quote Link to post
