A long time ago and I am talking the late 1970's / early 1980's I knew a guy who killed a lot and I mean a lot of big game and uuummmn .. lets just say other stuff with borzoi greyhounds before the law and the owners of the 'other stuff' eventually caught up with him! In over 30 years with long dogs probably the best single handed hare killer I have ever seen was a 27"

rough coated borzoi/greyhound / deerhound/greyhound bitch belonging to a friend. This bitch was also a very tidy lamper and fox and deer dog as well. I think that the borzoi does have something to offer to lurcher breeders although crossing it with a whippet is not something I would do myself.

At least its some kind of sighthound, could be one of those wierd crossbred toy thing, shitapoo, jug, etc

 

I wouldnt worry too much, its not like you'll be allowed to work it much anyway!

Just like anything else it will depend on the dogs used to produce the litter. A GREAT working borzoi crossed with a GREAT working whippet would probably produce decent dogs, but where the f**k are you meant to find a decent working pure borzoi in this country? To be honest with what your working with over here it would probably break if it ran too fast.

With the Borzois i've seen, they are so tall and narrow, no way can they turn sharp enough to catch anything.

Borzoi are used in Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, for hunting hare, fox, wolf, etc. But they are a VERY different dog to the show dogs you see here. They are also used in Staghound breeding in the U.S. and Australia, but, once again, they are NOT the show types we see here. On wide open land, against certain quarry, they have their place; but here, there are better crosses; Deerhound, Saluki, for example.

no sorry she has had her eye on this cross for a while and without me knowing put her name on a waiting list it looks like we are going to look at here kenells some time soon

If you can find one get her it mate, am sure you no the pit falls if you do good luck with it. it cant be any worse than a Malamute cross from what i have read they do 50 rabbits a night
