Deker 3,478
hi pal in ya interview also tell him ya want the HMR because of its lack of ricochet compared with the 22lr they will love that because it shows ya thinking of the safety aspect of things as well all the best with the interview mine lasted an hour !!!!!!!! We all have a view but anyone who has any experience knows that is daft, the .22lr is the biggest selling calibre in the world. Any calibre can ricochet and you need to be careful with EVERY shot of every calibre, saying you want a HMR because it does not ricochet as much as .22lr is NOT a valid reason unless you can demonstrate unsafe ground. In simple terms, if you say you want HMR over .22lr to the FEO because it is safer, he will think you are an idiot who reads too many forums! ATB! Quote Link to post

ATB! thought it may not be a valid reason on it's own, surely it won't harm your application if you were to mention it? I think the primapry reason for wanting an HMR would be the ease of which it can be used out to 100m + i.e. less need for holding over/under(having said that, I don't really condone stretching any cal. too far) though there have been plenty of instances where I wish I had a .22LR instead of the HMR, purely for the minimal damage it does to the rabbit, making chest shots a viable proposition, faffing about with the lamp on the rabbit trying to get a good shot at the head is a recipe for making it want to be someplace else! ATB If the .22lr was a dangerous as many seem to make out on forums it would have been banned years ago. Bringing safety into any debate can only be useful if you can show a safety need. Simply suggesting HMR is safer than .22lr without backing it up isn't a valid reason and shows inexperience, on that basis where do you stop, why not a .223 or .243 etc, light, very fast bullet with ballistic tips that can sometimes surface splash on a bunny, they don't ricochet often, so they must be even safer than a HMR! If your quarry is, for example, 100 yards plus away with no sensible way of getting closer (and the land is suitable of course) then you have a valid argument for a HMR over a .22lr. If you have a valid safety reason for an HMR over a .22lr then bring it up, but not simply, I want a HMR because it is safer than a .22lr, like I said earlier, that is daft! ATB! Quote Link to post
rutland12 0
I`v got a Anshutz 1517HB wildcat mod and a thumbhole stock I made Bushnell 6500 scope and It loves Remminton loads Hi I have the same rifle and mod as you. I am not happy with the groups I am getting with Blue tip hornady. What groups are you getting at 100 yds ? Funny the red tips were better. I have not tried the remmies as these did not like my previous CZ where the hornady did. Thanks Tony Quote Link to post
