ihatealiens 0
Was just wondering what peoples thoughts on deerhound crosses are? they don't seem so common anymore Got me a Deerhound/Greyhound/Bull X Rhodesian Ridgeback, 9 weeks old will let u know in a year or so time how good she is. All I know is the last litter from the same pairing produced massive dogs even the runt of the litter turned out to be a 40KG beast Quote Link to post

Skinny 29
i currently have a good friend trying to source a first cross bitch pup for me to buy from really good stock. If he comes through on it he will be well rewarded. I have been hunting with lurchers for over fifteen years and olly seen one deerhound cross. My theory is this if you are big and strong you dont have to be a nut case of a dog to take a fox unlike alot of the crosses currently in use today. There is an empty pen waiting for my first deer hound cross pup. Quote Link to post
JollyPoacher 3
You won't be disappointed. They can take longer to mature than terrier xs. Quote Link to post

artic 595
Like anything else, correctly trained and not rushed into anything, they mature to be a great dog that will keep a smile on your face. I'm not too sure about the slow maturing, maybe I'm lucky, but very fast learners indeed. Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
When I first got into lurchers almost every bitza about had deerhound in the mix.The first lurcher I owned had some in him and he was some dog on any quarry, though these days theres not near as many about and with the whole show scene becoming much more popular especially post ban we're sadly seeing less and less working deerhounds.Though there is still a handful of enthusiasts keeping the good bloodlines going though they're most likely not being peddled all over the place.
