welshphil 190
Just returned from Budgetvets (budget?? they're having a fecking laugh!!) where my lurcher was diagnosed with lungworm and have just been hit with a bill for £91.... £20 consultation fee(fair enough) £24 for metacam to deal with his cough and tender throat - (cost online £6)and £48 for Advocate spot on (cost online £15-£17). I appreciate that they're a business and need to make money but how the feck can they justify that extortionate mark up??? Is it any wonder that we all hate the rip off b*****ds
Malt 379
That's a piss take. I paid about £16 for that spot on stuff when my dog needed it at my vets.
MoChara 1,632
From 9th may this year, ive had a bill that tallied up to just over £500.. the dog had 3 bouts of gastroenteritis and colitis, now to treat that it was just a drip, an overnight in the vet (each time) a painkiller and antibiotics. Hannah4181 260
How many posts does it take for people to realise that vets can be expensive and if your worried get insurance . . . . . or don't get a dog. It's not rocket science.

Cold Ethyl 63
Cunning plan mate lol.I am lucky i get a 25% discount and no questions asked either so its not too bad i can go to the pdsa but choose not to cos i have not been very impressed with them off late.Insurance is all very well i want mine insured but not as easy for some with the credit crunch etc and they dont always pay out either and you still; have to lay out initially anyways.I had it for a lurcher of mine and idea was they pay vet direct hence i was paying more for that policy only to be told by every vet in the area they dont deal direct as some times they dont get paid or have to wait months for it.I am considering opening a seperate bank account and putting the money id pay the insurance into that and then you got a back up plan.Especially after the terriers last stunt and the lurcher both ended in a scrap and cost a fortune having the terrier put back together again and the lurchers shoulder sorted
CarraghsGem 92
ive a great farm vet here, i use him most of the time. he deals with the problem, no fuss, no lectures, and you pay him when you have the money and he is cheap. i keep a record of what treatment i owe him for and bring the cash up to his surgery when i have it as hes notorious for avoiding taking money off you, to date i owe him for; 3parvo jabs, stitching up a goat, vitamin injection in a sick dog, anti-inflammatory injection, + 2 call out fees 150-170euro should cover it. tryed a different vet recently.... he killed my dog and then tryed to charge me for it. I feel very humble to be in your presence and very grateful to that you felt me important enough to get on your smug high horse and put me right. Once again I thank you......

He sounds like my vet, Gem. I think he's a star....he'll happily dispense knowledge for free over the phone if he thinks a consultation ain't necessary, he lets me pay when i'm flush and when i recommended a friend to go there, my next visit cost me nowt as a thank you. Also, when i was there last, my right ear had been giving me gyp for a week so i asked him to have a look. He shoved the 'scope in and said it was a middle ear infection and to get to the docs for anti-biotics. Doc agreed too. He's definitely on my christmas card list
