i was out with the lamp last night funning my whippet x bitch getting her back to fitness after a long rest due to a bad injury .

 

she is a rabbit dog and i dont ask her to do anything else. anyway i was looking on a field deep in the fens which holds a good head of rabbits that are regualy sitting tight a long way out , the first scan revieled 20 or so rabbits out with us positioned between safty

 

we walked out trying to get closer when i didnt think i could push any closer i slipped and faye was in hot persuit after a few twists the rabbit found home and she started her long trott back when those big orange disks entered the field trotting around the back side of the field to take position up wind of us.

 

faye saw it and decided to see what it was she proceeded to chace and when she turned it for the second time back into open ground the fox turnned face on to her as she stopped ....

 

not 3 feet apart and looking eye to eye faye sat and played her submissive gesture as if she was meeting a bigger dog for the first time i thought this is it the dog fox is going to take full advantage but it didnt

having a little sniff and vice versa they began what i can only see as a game of kiss chase dog chasing fox and fox chasing dog.

 

i called to faye she returned straight to hand with mr fox in tow the fox came so close i could of kicked it where i stood

 

when it finally noticed my precence it moved away to about 20 feet where it stayed for the 4 fields home gradualy extending the distance yet never more than yards away always looking stopping when i did walking when i did

 

i went back and squeeked in what i think is the same fox this morning again in came in easily stopping short about 40 yards bold as brass i watched for a while before returning home after the fox left

 

anyone had anything like this happen to them

 

my dog is no where near her season and these foxes are normaly smelt but not seen could it be a city fox that has been dumped lokked healthy

that's a mad one that i seen to half grown fox cubs attacking a cat one night

I Have seen foxs stop in the middle of a field and face the dog before,even saw one do it to a pack of fox hounds once a young dog finds it of putting,but if the fox started chasing my dog,i would be a bit up set to say the least.

faye is a ferreting dog and i dont mind fox arnt quarry to me just bunnys and she does that very well i saw that as quite intellegent as she camme face to face with a smashing yet came back un harmed with a fox round her little finger

I've had a cub/ youngling follow my dog back in after a run Saw 2 pairs of eye's coming back which was strange. Needlesss to say it didn't hang around for long after my dog noticed

Seen a fox or two stop and face a dog, usually with predictable results!! And, as you say, it was deep in the fens, i'd bet that young fox had no idea what you and your dog was.

 

Though it's good to hear that you are content with your dog and what it does and you don't have to prove anything, good for you.

Bet it was a bit of a buzz and good to watch.

i have seen the same but with 2 foxes together, my old dog ran up to them one went to the hedge and stood watching , the other stood like yours in the middle of the field nose to nose with my dog , i got to about 30 yard away at this point my dog just walked back to me and we carried on our walk , both the foxes just stayed where they were.

 

mine was in the middle of the DAY i have always thought they must have been realeased to have been so casual about me and the dog.

Seen quite a few weird things with foxes,all young uns. Saw 2 foxes stalking a cat but neither had the bottle to tackle it. Also a young un trying to grab a horses tail.

A few nights ago i was out lamping and towards the end of the night i let the dogs off to have a bit chill. They both raced off in the direction of the lake and as they ran past this embankment a young fox came over the top of it. The dogs never even noticed the fox, and the fox came straight towards me looking at me as if to question what i was doing there.
