Guest stewie
NOBODYS UNBEATABLE ..... BUT AS A ROUGH HOUSE FIGHTER LENNY COULD DISH IT OUT ...... HIS HEAD MOVEMENT AND DEFENCE WASNT GREAT AND HE WASNT FIGHTING TOP CLASS MEN IN CONDITION MOST OF THE TIME , BUT WAS FIGHTING HARD MEN THAT HAD LEARNT ON THE COBBLES .. WHICH AS ANYONE KNOWS ARE ALWAYS VERY , VERY DANGEROUS FOR A FEW MINUTES .. NORMALLY ALL IT TAKES !! A FILM IS LONG OVER DUE ..... THOUGH WHEATHER THE GUY IN THE CLIP IS UP TO THE JOB GOD KNOWS , PERSONALLY I WOULD HAVE LIKE TO HAVE SEEN THE LIKES OF GUY RITCHIE TAKE THIS ONE ON AND GIVE IT THE EDGE IT NEEDS TO BE TRUE TO LIFE ..... YEAH I HEARD LENNY GOT BEAT A FEW TIMES ....... BUT DID BEAT A LOT OF OTHERS WOULD HE HAVE BEATEN BARTLEY GORMAN ? ....... WELL ..... WHO DID GORMAN BEAT ? BARTLEY WAS A NICE ENOUGH BLOKE WHO I MET ONCE OR TWICE AT A MATES PLACE , A GOOD BUILD FOR A FIGHTER AND FAST ENOUGH HANDS EVEN WHEN I MET HIM ...... BUT OFTEN CONSIDERD A RUCK IN A BOOZER AS A TITLE FIGHT ...... FECK ME I MUST HAVE HAD HUNDREDS THEN !! ROSS KEMP ... DONT MAKE ME GIGGLE ...... I COULD DO A MORE CONVINCING JOB ! THOUGH THE IAM A GEEZER ACCENT MIGHT TAKE SOME DOING WITH THE ETON TWANG BEING SO STRONG ALL THE BEST DUCKWING off goes no it all again
ginga john 268
A film of his life would be a bit of a whitewash as he was certainly no angel and at one time was more than a tad schizophrenic, whilst on the door of the Hippodrome !! Just to put things in order ginga john most of what you say is correct apart from the statement ive outlined above...Lenny was never anything near schizophrenic and certainly in the time he worked on the Hippodrome and Ronnie Scotts was a total gentleman and the perfect old time club bouncer,no not the trendy pretty boy " doormen " that are popular today Lenny could turn in a split second and it was never pretty when he did,but most times a look and quiet whisper in the ear was good enough...he was in great demand on doors which you dont become by being schizophrenic. As regards who he could beat and who he couldnt,Lennie was a great fighter but not a good boxer,he was simply too uncontrolled and didnt have the temperament to box, early on he applied to the british boxing board of control for a licence which they refused due to his record which was the main reason he started fighting unlicensed. To this day Lennie is still possibly the most powerful and explosive man ive ever seen fight, who knows what he could of achieved with the correct temperament and the correct conditioning and training. WILF 47,494
When they tryed to get Lenny on a murder charge after he give that lad a right hander on the door of the Hippodrome and the lad went on to die later that evening, by the way, he was found not guilty due to the fact that the lad was so plastered he fell a few hours later over and died because of that.......I wonder if that lad blind drunk was as good as Roy Shaw, or as big........or was he just a skinny pissed lad that had too much to say for himself (none of us has ever done that) I wonder if that lads mother will enjoy the film? Lenny was doing his job same as you or i would to the best of our ability but sometimes accidents happen, they always have and always will happen particularly in an environment like that.....theres a reason Lenny was THE most sought after bouncer in London and its not because he was a unstable nutbag......shit dont take my word for it ask around, theres not many people with a bad word to say about the man ! gnasher16 30,425
I am not digging you out Gnasher, just another point of view No fair do,s....just im sure you understand that to make rash judgements based on what you read in newspapers is not always wise.Im sure theres plenty of hunting folk who have been on the wrong end of rash judgements based on media sensationalism The man was doing his job as a " not guilty " in a court of law indicated....the kid paid the ultimate price and didnt deserve the end he got for the problem he started.....but like i say accidents happen in those situations. Incidentally...heres another point of view, the kid was in police custody when he died after running round central London naked, all this after having been chucked out the Hippodrome by Lennie for touching up women !....so it could be said from plods point of view it didnt hurt none for Lennies name to be thrown into the frame Edited November 1, 2010 by gnasher16
