fao round tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Well the forms have been in for 2 weeks and my local FAO is coming to see me tomorrow :boogie:

What sorts of things will they be asking me and looking out for? as to be honest I'm bricking it.

Also I have had some new permission since sending in the forms so can I ask about an open ticket or would I be pushing it a bit?

I have gone for both a .22 rimmy and shotgun.

I had my visit today and yes I was also terrified :icon_redface:

The main things they want to know is what experience especially regarding safety and that you know enough about the guns you want. Secondly they want to know that you have thought through your security requirements.

I only put in for my SGC and the first question was "why do you want a shotgun?" which I was expecting but didn't give my rehearsed answer! I was also asked what kind of guns I had used i.e. over under / side by side and what type of bore / cartridges. I suspect this was to gauge my knowlege about shotguns. I was also asked about safety and what rules I had learnt i.e treat a shotgun as if it is loaded untill you have checked otherwise, checking there are no obstructions in the barrels and muzzle awareness.

Then we moved on to house security, alot of which was fulling in a form so yes or no answers, have you got a dog? CCTV? alarm fitted? what kind of locks you have on the door. As my cabinate is not fitted yet we discussed where I wanted to put it and also about where the key will be stored and where the cartridges will be stored as well. Don't tell him exactly where you are going to keep the key by the way....only you should know, but he will want to know you aren't going to put it somewhere stupid like a kitchen draw.

Most of the questions are really common sense so just take you time to answer them and ask yourself why they are asking the question in the first place.

Best of luck mate :)

Thanks mate I,ve done a bit of shooting with shotgun and .22 rimmy all up in Scotland with a Gillie on his land so I hope thats ok for them.

Most of my shooting has been .22 air rifle and safety is always first and been on the same land for 3 years.

Thats my only worry the time and experience with the guns that I havnt had.

How did it go mate?

Not the outcome I really wanted but foot on the ladder as they say.

Got Sgc and should be here in 2 weeks but wont let me have .22 rimmy as I've not got enough experience and was told to join a gun club to get some. But did allow me to have a Fac for a air rifle but that got me thinking can I not just put in for a variation in 5-6 months?

It's a start at least :)

Gun club would be a good idea, my FLO liked that I was a full member of one and even said he would have no problem with me getting a FAC as I was a member.

At least you get both the FAC and SGC in one go and as you say get a variation later on down the line.

Looking at gun clubs now online and will be calling in on some over the weekend and then give it a couple of months and then see how it goes.
