loulove1 0
Wanted a nice canvas print for the house but couldnt find any i liked so had a go at taking some pics then playing about with them, what do you think? Hi, i have just seen this thread. . . . . . . i personally really like what your trying to do with these images, there is a massive market for graphics images to be used as wall decoration. IMO its exactly the same as the art world, and simply a matter of personal taste. I like the yellow image, although i would probably adjust the yellow tone slightly, bringing it down to create more subtle effect . . . but again its personal choice . . . . i feel the brightness of the colour deflects from the image and lessens the impact of the winding road. The monochrome image is nice, but a little flat . . . it lacks any depth or shadows that a genuine monochrome image would have captured. Try using "LEVELS" in photoshop to increase the contrasts in the image and make it more punchy. . . .. you could also use the levels to create an "over cooked" graphic image more along the lines of a piece of art, as opposed to a straight photograph. Photoshop is a wonderful proggramme and you can achieve some amazing results . . . . . i will say that it can also turn a masterpiece into a piece of junk, IF done badly. Obviously you know the kind of end result you are looking for, so i would continue doing as you are and experimenting with different images and photoshop techniques until you create something your really pleased with. What i would say is that from your efforts so far it is clear that you have an eye for design and can visualise in your head what makes an aesthetically pleasing piece. "The monochrome image is nice, but a little flat ." This is what i thought, it dosent present enough depth. I did wonder if i could change it somehow to give it a more 3d effect as with a genuine monochrome. I will have a go at using the "levels" and see what i can do with it. Thanks for the comment and i was trying to use the photos in a more design / print type way for canvas as you have said. some real usefull information and comments Hannah, thanks. Hannah4181 260
Ok i've very quickly put the image through the shop to demonstrate what i mean . . . This first one is a simple technique called "Posterize". . . . does exactly what it says on the tin and imo makes for a nice slight graphicy finish. The next one is the straight image, just punched up a bit in levels to produce a snappier image with more depth. This one is an "over cooked" image, achieved by altering the "exposure" tool and creating an over exposed copy of the original that is perhaps more artistic and creative as a wall piece. This is the coloured tone version . . . . like your yellow image it just adds a very simple cast to the entire image which if desaturated slightly and the levels adjusted can give a very nice edge to a simple monochrome shot. This technique is very popular in marketing and advertising, the colour instantly draws attention. I have dulled down the saturation as i feel its a soft image and works well with a subtle edge. And finally . . . . the pop art/cartoon book image . . . bold, bright, graphical and almost abstract in its finish. I have obviously not given these the time i would to create a final image, just done quick adjustments to give you an idea of where you can go to create a graphical image from a photo. WILF 47,975
Wanted a nice canvas print for the house but couldnt find any i liked so had a go at taking some pics then playing about with them, what do you think? My very uneducated opinion would be "too much tinkering about"......you have 4 nice enough images there that could most likely stand alone with out f*****g around if you waited for the right day/light/ etc I dont believe you can "make" a great image, you will just know it when you see it if you have an eye for such things..........but hey, what the f**k do I know about it

However, art is subjective, and if you like the pics, and want them on your wall, why not? I think the black and white pic is the best of the bunch. It's a pleasant scene with the road and fence leading the eye into the shot, but I'd be inclined to revisit the location and reshoot it in better light. Hannah has done a really good job on it but the adjustments have led to loss of detail in the dark and light areas of the pic. If you like the graphic look it's best to take the pic in better, more contrasty, light so there are more shadows to give definition to the landscape. Misty shots are rather subtle for this kind of effect. The first shot is very simple and I think here you could break the rules of composition and crop it to portrait format with the track leading into the centre of the frame? Just an idea
