Judges Who and How Many

Recommended Posts

Hi I was chairman of the Northumberland & Durham Working Lurcher Club, we organised some of the best shows in the north of England, 2 per year for our club, and we were also asked by other clubs to organise theirs. We always had 2 judges for the lurchers and terriers, Thought the days of having only one judge were over, it can work on smaller shows, but we were obtaining very large classes, best to split them up a bit if possible. imo

Thanks for your reply Last year was the first year for this show we were unsure of numbers I think this year looking at the response we had it will have to be two

Know any good judges

A deerhound breeder pics a deerhound x to win , was it worth anyone without a deerhound x turning up , did the judge breed the winner,

With this sort of shit coming on this site when a judge has done his best, and fairly, dont think you will get many offers, unless the taffs are not as critical as the jocks

I agree to a certain degree

But

a show is to judge the conformation of a dog and not it`s working ability the judge should be looking for a dog that in his/her opinion has the physical attributes that would allow it to do the work asked of it if needed to , you can not judge how much bottle or heart a dog has just by walking it around a show ring , but you can judge condition and health of a dog by handling it and watching for correct movement and so on

I don`t show but can understand people wanting something else to do with their dogs during the off season :thumbs-up:

Exactly Chaz.....treat shows for what they are, just a bit of fun.

I have worked lurchers all my life from the age of seven with my Grandfather and uncles to now at 46,what I get from shows when competing is the social life in the summer its a great crack to meet friends catch up and see their dogs and sponge their way of doing things.

It was a bonus to me to see my dog win a race or trophy.

The reason I started to run our show was I am not prepared to see my sport go underground I like freinds who help me are great belivers in strength in numbers ,when at shows in huge numbers like at our show last year over 450 dogs it is an opportunity to show the anti you are not winning just making us stronger.

Party political broadcast over

Judges must work lurchers to judge them and there is always going to be a deerhound breeder or bull cross breeder ?????????????? judging a class with only three dogs in with one his or maybe the three his depending on the size of the show as an organiser before picking judges it will become like the kennel club judges for each particular breed ahhhhhhh

Or perhaps a questionaire for the judge to fill in prior to taking the show

1)Do you breed dogs

2)Do you know anyone who works or owns a lurcher who might come to the show

3)Are you predujice over cross preference

4)Can you be swayed by a good looking woman on the end of the lead

I think very few judges will give you anything but a negative answer to your last three questions,Ive done a fair bit of judging, and like everyone else have my preferences ,but when you are in the ring you have a n obligation to the dogs and competitors to put all personal preference aside,as to how many judges ,if you expect big classes then one for the unders and one for the overs, will speed things up a bit ,Ive started judging at I and finished at 6,thats a long day in the ring andwith little reward, you make a couple of friends and several new enemies if they dont like your decisions,I wont go into the old one about working ability ,,its been done to death as a judge what you are looking for, conformation, movement, condition, and temparament,in short a dog that looks as though it can do the job its been bred for,Ive judged with John Thomas from Wales,Stat Stainton from Lincs ,Jackie Drackeford, and Nip Griffiths, others Ive watched judge include Penny Taylor, and AndyToyne ,Id recommend any of those.INAN

Sorry Inan it wasnt aimed at judges it was aimed at the negative snipers who sometimes attend shows and question the choice of judges

Yeh like the ones their dogs kill and catch everything they see,I tend to make polite conversation look at the dog on the day and base my decision on that.

There must be a loser in all shows like the goverment dont let the snipers get you down
