kevin from bristol 95
i allways use an older lurcher because shes never wrong she has three levels of mark one is sniffing for a while (this is a maybe )then theres sniffing and wagging tail (this is someones home )then sniffing wagging and crying this is (theres someone in and i can hear or see them ) this is a never fail she will even sit by one whole in a bury and 9 out of 10 thats were you get your bolt and bang shes got it she wasnt allways like this its taken years but she has perfected the art and is very very paitent . a friend of mine uses a terrier thats equally as good but has been known to get excited and nail the odd ferret were as my old girl has never even thought about it Quote Link to post

turbo28 1
who's to say who is the best dog,i have a colliegreyhound/whippet,but still prefer my jack russell for ferreting..thanks for the replys though. Quote Link to post
mattmcw 12
collie/grey and a jack russel mate. the terrier is better at marking i think but the lurcher is better allround. Are you saying your terrier is a better marker than your lurcher or are you saying that terrier are better for marking than lurcher's , because i for one would disagree as the best marking dog i have seen was a lurcher no i meant that the terrier is better for marking but the lurcher is better for holding them in nets and obviously the terrier hasnt really got a chance on bolting rabbits Quote Link to post

All depends where you are pal... You take a whippet on to the cumbrian fells in the dcepth of winter and it will be f****d in 30 mins... A rough coated dog is needed for around ferreting. dytkos 17,783
Depends where you are, oop North maybe and Jockland defo but if your in a lovely Cornish valley or beachside location, my old smoothcoat could handle a 12 hour shift no probs. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
