Are you saying your terrier is a better marker than your lurcher or are you saying that terrier are better for marking than lurcher's , because i for one would disagree as the best marking dog i have

have 2 agree with u there mate i have a whippet here and he has a better nose then any terrier.

goes to show you give your dog the life you get it back well done mate for spending the time and money on yours i would mine to

i allways use an older lurcher because shes never wrong she has three levels of mark one is sniffing for a while (this is a maybe )then theres sniffing and wagging tail (this is someones home )then sniffing wagging and crying this is (theres someone in and i can hear or see them ) this is a never fail she will even sit by one whole in a bury and 9 out of 10 thats were you get your bolt and bang shes got it she wasnt allways like this its taken years but she has perfected the art and is very very paitent .

 

a friend of mine uses a terrier thats equally as good but has been known to get excited and nail the odd ferret were as my old girl has never even thought about it

Just curiouse to know,if and what kind of dog you'se guy and girls use when ferreting for marking ,chaseing down etc,i use a minature jack russel,18 months old,i know poeple use lurchers to,would appreciate everyones input please!!

 

 

saluki whippet grahound mate but i only use her for the escapies really

collie/grey and a jack russel mate. the terrier is better at marking i think but the lurcher is better allround.

no i meant that the terrier is better for marking but the lurcher is better for holding them in nets and obviously the terrier hasnt really got a chance on bolting rabbits

We use a bull x but shes to hard for her own good and has a mouth like a mangle but a great marking dog

 

:D:D mouth like a mangle :D:D like it :D I've got a whippet/bull just the same (he's old and past it now)he was a great dog if you like rabbit soup :D

 

 

Its no hardship mate nearly all the rabbits go for ferret grub so her crunching thems no a problem and any she gets i rip both ears so i know not to give away those ones :D.but we got her at two years of age off here and ive no complaints great dogs the wee whippet cross bulls

iv used a wippet last season. she woz only ten month old last jan, she took to it like a duck to water, i started this season on the 16th and she marks mint; shes a cracking little grafter.if its just ferreting a wippets as good as any dog.

 

 

 

All depends where you are pal... You take a whippet on to the cumbrian fells in the dcepth of winter and it will be f****d in 30 mins... A rough coated dog is needed for around ferreting.
