a*beater 0
Hi all went up to permission yesterday for a walk round with the air rifle but it was more for the benifits of the dog i shot on as soon as i got there so decided to leave it where i could find it.I then turned round to see the dog run off after a cock pheasant that apeared to have been shot it was trying to fly but could only get bout 3 ft of the ground then run abit but still held on leg off floor as i was calling the dog back it dissapered into the hedge along with the dog (bloody terriers)so i stood around waiting for the dog or pheasent to appear the dog then returned but no sign of the pheasant i carried on walking a little way and found a dead hen pheasant that was flat on one side but really cold just an old death i thought anyway as i turned round i caught sight of a dead rabbit and then another and another all within a foot and a half of each other i walked over to them and let the dog have a sniff i then noticed that one of them had an eyeball missing so i turned the other twon over to find they too had an eye ball missing as my permission is quite close to a footpath i decided to collect up the rabbits and throw them into a nearby patch of high nettles as i walked back i noticed a pheasant siiting about 10 ft away in the hedgeline so i quickly put the dog an a lead and picked up a stick and snapped it in the hope to make it stand up it worked however i noticed it was holding its leg and i knew it was the one i had seen earlier just as i took aim the dog bark and the pheasant disappered so i looked round to where to dog was barking and noticed that a buzzard had landed where my shot rabbit was however as i took my camera out it took flight so i walked over to where it had landed and noticed that the fooking thing had eaten half my dinner so i took the half rabit and threw it into the field and waited five minutes to see if it would come back so i could get a photo no joy. anyway what i wanted to know was what your airgunners out there thought could it be poachers or maybe a buzzard or kite i have notified the landowner and he has not seen or heaerd anything suspicious.any help into what it might have been would be appreciated. kind regards dom Quote Link to post

festa 206
eyes missing from dead animals could be crows...magpies...jackdaws most of the corvid family will peck out the eyes .... were there any other injurys to the rabbits any sign of pellets teeth marks ?? ...2 dead rabbits next to each other isnt normal unless they were put there could it of been a fox ? if its had 2 kills but then been spooked (if its next to a path people walking by) it could be anything really best thing you can do is just keep an extra eye when your out mate ... atb gary Quote Link to post
fry 209
sounds like discarded kills by a hunter to me air rifle, ferreters or trappers and as festa says above crows pick out eyes. Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
Or maybe you have a pheasant shoot nearby, wounded birds can go a long way and be missed by pickers up. The season has started recently Dead rabbits could be anything from myxi to fox/dog kills etc i wouldn't go getting too worried about it. Quote Link to post

rabbit.slayer.no.1 3
you need to set up a hide and sit for a day or 2 to see if anyone turns up. sounds like young kids shooting airrifles we have some up are way that may hit the rabbit but bunny still runs . they end up back on the feild a day or two later .
