FAC questions ?

Recommended Posts

hi there i am a 17 year old lad who has studied gamekeepin fortwo year at college i have held a shotgun certificate for nearly 6 months and have been shooting since i was 6 or 7 years of age. i now am applying for me own FAC ... and have applied for a 17 hmr and a .243 i was wanting to know how many people may have permission to shoot on a certain peice of ground with rifles as both peices of ground i could possibly get written permission for already have at least 3 people on ? i have also wrote for my .17 hmr that i am using it for vermin control and that my .243 would be for fox control as i have no permission for deer yet. i would also like to know where i would write that i would like sound moderators on both guns all help would be very much apprecieated :D

I Dont think there is a limit on numbers of FAC holders can have a piece of ground on their tickets. I have an open ticket but when I renew I have to provide a letter of permission to shoot over land which has 5 or 6 others on it. I would personaly put deer and fox control on the .243 slot and see if you get it to save yourself paying for a variation to add deer later on. Perhaps you could say that you are going to do the DSC 1 so need deer on the ticket. As for mods, in the boxes that you write what rifles you want put + sound moderator. Dont think you should have a problem with getting the ticket so get it sent off.

A word of caution. My first firearms application was on a farm that had an excessive level of firearms registered for vermin/fox control. This didn't seem to bother the plod and the granted my first FAC. My mate also registered on the land and was granted and FAC. We had no idea how many people had registered on the land, mainly because over a period of eight years we hadn't seen anyone else shooting on the farm. We used to shoot the place more or less every night (keen as mustard back then!). Now my mind started to wander and I fancied a .222 (up until then I had only ever owned .22rf), I called the firearms office to enquire if I would be okay to apply and was promptly told by the clerk " That land has been deemed unsuitable " it transpired that some numpty had tried to register their firearms on the land, and walked the land with the FEO. To cut a long story short, they had got lost and ended up on another farm. To make matters worse, this applicant was supposed to have shot on the land every week for the last twenty odd years. The clerk then told me that if I didn't have any where else to shoot over and register my firearms, I would have to hand my rifles to an RFD for disposal. As luck would have it, I had several more areas of land to register on and so my FAC was saved. My rifles are now registered on land where no one else has permission, I am the only one registered on the land. So my advice is, apply but look for other land as well because sooner or latter some numpty will cock up and you will be left high and dry! The sound moderators are entered the same way as a rifle. For example .243 sound moderator.
