entering a terrier?

Recommended Posts

i've had this wee terrier bitch for around 10mths now, i've had rat squirrel, and a shot mink with her, also took her ferreting and she wasnt too bad just showed little interest in holes, she is also no bad for mooching with the lurchers picking up the odd rabbit.

the thing is im not wanting to waste her on the above and would much prefer her to go to ground, and after looking for her for 1/2 an hour only to find she had dug on under the shed after a hedgehog i thought i should give her a bash. there is an earth not far from me and im 99% sure it holds so i took her along and the lurchers marked it so knew something was there i collared up the terrier and indicated to my mate to get ready for a shot. i slipped her off the lead and she run up to the hole but only went in half her body length,

do you think she'll enter if she is shown by an entered dog? shes arround the 18mth mark

thanks for any advice

always trust your terrier no matter how old even though your lurchers have marked a hole, the fox might have had a piss at the entrance,if its well enough bred it should go alright,p.s.did you have an experienced terrrier to try after your pup said no nothing at home,no matter how good an earth looks like its holding if any of my terriers says no im happy at that

The terrier hasnt seen a fox so hows it supposed to mark one :wallbash: .

I would trust a lurcher who has seen a fox over a terrier who hasnt any day .

Just keep trying mate .

because it oviously has a nose on it or it wouldnt no what sqirrells or mink were,if its well enough bred going to ground would be natural

for it,as for lurchers marking to ground its the same for hounds marking the terrier will have a better nose underground as hounds only follow the scent on top of the ground to the hole unless they can fit down the hole atb
