jasper65 6
would anyone fly or hunt with a ten year old hawk???? I flew a 18 year old Gos called "Belan" in 1997 belonging to a friend, She could take Bunnies no problem and even took a Hare and the odd Pheasants on the rise! but that was about it with her, Mind you this bird was carrying two lead shot from a a few years previouse when she was Gunned down by a keeper , she also Self Hunted pretty bad but it wasn't surpriseing, this was a Noted Hawk held in high esteem at the BFC in her younger days! once flying a Pheasant clean over the top of a church steeple before binding to it on lower ground. Back to the question! I would fly a ten year old P/R Hawk and certainly give it a go expecially if I knew I bit of decent History on her, if its been buggered up by in the past then I think I would give it a miss. There are a lot of good birds that 'become' available through no fault of their own, ie change in circumstance. I have a 12 yr old Male Harris that may have to go due to changes at home, but believe me, I wouldnt be interested in money, he would have to go to someone I knew would put the time into him he desereved, and anyone that saw him fly would be interested. What Im trying to say is everything(within reason) is worth a look, like you say a lot of bad habits may have been picked up but on the other hand there are a lot of wanna be flyers with the pointers, 4 x 4s etc that may look the part but wouldnt know a decent bird from a bad one. Happy new year Sidney Quote Link to post
ivanh 4
yeah i would fly an older hawk if it was given to me.but the lad was wanting 150 for a ten year old female redtail.which i thought was a bit much when you know nothing about the bird. Quote Link to post
