runforyourlife 361
We have a villager woodburner.. We have had it for 5 yrs now.. The problem is the suction seems to have dropped, and when we open the door to reload, smoke bellows out. Doing our heads in... It has never had the best suction on it, since it was moved to retile behind it.. We dont think it is the chimney, as it was swept last year... Could it be that the out let tube/pipe is to long inside the chimney. you know, the pipe from the fire which goes through the board . I think it sticks up by about 3 foot inside the chimney. Would it be worth cutting it down and seeing if we get a better suction?? Any advice will be goood advice. Cheers Russ.
mattydski 560
Is the vent on the back in the wrong position??? Has been knocked? The length of the pipe is not going to be too long, if any thing it could be too short.. They recommend a minimum of 4m to get a good draw.. If it worked in the past, and has stopped working now...it could well be that the chimney needs swept again.
Lab 10,979
What was it like after you got it swept, did the suction improve? If so i'd get it swept again. Whats on the roof outside?
"Earth!" 503
Whats on the roof outside? tiles or thatch i would imagine get it swept again pal,had to get mine done.
runforyourlife 361
It never really made any difference when it was swept, and hardly anything came out...I have a sweep myself, i think i may do that to at least eliminate that.. I cant see how it has been knocked. It is on the pipe its self, and its a simple flap... Onthe roof is a chimney pot.... And once the door is shut, the smoke is bellowing out of the pot normally .... doing my fecking head in tho.lol. I would never fit a 4m tube in through the hole.... kenny14 656
This might be the problem - There should be a baffle in the firebox just below the flue which is designed to keep the flames and heat in the stove. Sometimes after sweeping the chimney, quite a lot of soot can collect on top of this baffle, stopping the smoke from escaping up the chimney properly. When you moved the stove it could've dislodged soot or debris onto there also.
