pointer 543
I'll try again, bloody I phone lol It's not about doughting anybodies claims it's just that anybody who has done a bit of ratting will have had countless times when they think they shot a rat cleanly but found no body. For me personally it's no body,no rat And yes alot of my rats cannot be looked for but that's ratting,I still don't count them.that's how I see it and that's how I count the rats I take every year but it docent bother me if others see it differently. half n' half 8
davy/phantom may i dare say i've probably done more rat shooting than both of you and in similar locations with similar obsticals but i always seem to be able to retrieve a relatively high percentage (maybe two thirds or more)of the rats i hit. speaking as an 'outsider' from the airgun section 'click' it does look a little 'iffy' when after showing a picture of three rats, fifty casualties are claimed. no offence meant here, just saying how it looks 'from the outside' Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hi Davy, Just seen this post mate. Well done bud. Got to say i know what you mean about not always retrieving the bodies. That 3 days i spent shooting rats with mark in the Summer, we got around 90 ish bodies but must of shot 150 to 200 rats. A lot of them were found in the day light and not that night. When shooting in dirty, small places them rats can get into tiny holes even after a 16 grain to the head. It only takes them 1 second and then you have lost them while they die out of sight. Half, your point is valid buddy and i suspect it does seem a big claim to someone that doesnt know Davy well, but as a friend and fellow shooter that has shot with Davy on a number of occasions I defo believe his claim. He’s a top shot and very good at what he does. ATB Davy and Half Si Edited October 24, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
fry 209
if the fella says 50 as far as i am concerned 50 it is i have shot rats that jump up an run off why would you stretch how many smelly rats you have shot? an it aint hard to keep count with 10 shot magazines is it you just need to know how many you missed and from what i have seen on here of the mans shooting that wont be many Quote Link to post

markvining 18
Hi Davey, Nice little rat shoot so were was my invite lol. pointer and half&half both have valid points, but Ive seen rats drag them selfs off up to 3 meters or so before curling up and dying but that is enough time to get back to a hole i only count the dead and the defo hits when they drag off. On a good shoot i usually pick up two thirds off the kill or more . When Dave was with us the other week when we nailed about 90 in one night the picture there was 57 but the next day i found another 10 and the others i was not able to get. PS. Dave I'm off work all week if you fancy a hand with those rats or what ever mark Quote Link to post
pointer 543
Its just the way i see things and we all have different opinions.I know that many rats ive shot will have soon died out of sight but as i cant be 100% sure on that i dont count them as dead.Either way it makes no difference as i just shoot what i see,and ratting inevitably takes place in built up areas with loads of holes etc close by. I think if i started counting rats i cant see dead but feel i hit bang in the head it would be the start of a slippery slope to kidding myself. I only shoot rats in the head and i only count the dead bodies i can see.........thats my own set of rules FOR MYSELF........it really dosent bother me if others can kill rats with other shot placement or count whatever they feel they hit in a kill zone but cant find. good hunting Edited October 25, 2010 by pointer Quote Link to post
