Malt 379
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11570593 I noticed in that article that they say they're going to double the aid to Pakistan, Somalia & Yemen.. I'm all for helping out other countries, but I think it's a bit out of order expecting us to swallow cuts to our frontline services & defence while they chuck four billion quid in the other direction. It also says they are cutting aid to Russia & China. Why are we still paying any aid to China when they've got one of the fastest growing economies in the word...?

FightTheBan 1,147
They look after the pennies and forget about the pounds. We would be out of recession in no time if we cut all aid to other countries. Charity starts at home. FTB
OldTrapCollector 377
That 'Aid' given to Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan is no more than blood money used to help stabilise those fragile areas to save us having to kick off there as well as Afghan and our other trouble spots I will be sad to see the old Ark go - I have spent 6 years of my life on that thing ... OldTrapCollector 377
How old is the Ark Royal.? I think I am right in saying she was commissioned in 1982 or thereabouts. She has a lot of sea miles on her clock but it is in good material state. It will be drain covers and razor blades by Xmas though ... OTC

Just wondering, can our navy still be considered a blue water navy without an active aircraft carrier? ..and what about illustrious? The headlines are all saying we'll be without a carrier, I've heard nothing about her. Will she just be used as a helicopter assault ship?
