rat traps

got a rat that i have seen a few times about my chickens, got a live trap which i have baited with peanut butter, sardines, chicken food but no joy. it been out about a week, just spent an hour with the air rifle and lamp but no joy, dont want to use poison as i got chickens, dogs and kids.

 

any help on bait, where to site trap etc etc appreciated

Put it where the rat is seen and bait it with chicken food,choc spread, peanut butter etc and cover it to look like a tunnel and leave it alone. Check it from a distance, rats are scared of new things The rats will go in there soon enough.

try wax from a candle it works a treat but if it dosn,t stick with beanut butter trail it through the trap.

have found peanut butter great for rats in house garage ect but no use outside just end up feeding the mice who lick it of the traps so you have to keep resetting traps nice peace of pepperami or half cooked bacon same job less trouble !

i use peanut butter and or dog biscuits with excellent results but placing the trap is the key if the hole is on your land then place the trap near the hole so the food is onhand before it goes on for anything else again ive done this and usually had the rat in the trap the very next morning
