Hi guys,

 

It being a while since I've posted but this is the third time I've tried to up date this post it keeps crashing so finger crossed. I've not really shot in at leased 6 weeks, work and family keeping me busy but that lack of shooting in conjunction with the rats coming in from the fields and the weather on the turn the rats have ballooned to epic proportions. Eating my expensive pig food which some costing up to £1100/ton, but have decided to use my JCB loader as a home and eating there way through the wiring loom which they did twice in a week costing over £500 and all the down time which was a right TW*T. Enough was enough it was time to call the A TEAM (Davet63,Zini,Alex,serg,) after they did such a good job in the summer. I contacted Davet63 who was well up for a bit of rat action so the night was set i just had to pull my finger out and get my gun sorted, fortunately i managed to get of work early on Friday so i raced over to Sandwell Field Sports as recommend by Zini to sort the mounts of my night vision to fit my HW100. Tony had no problem sorting me out and is a proper nice bloke, he's also tuning my HW97 so after a couple cups of coffee and about an hour of talking guns i was on my way back to meet dave.

 

Dave had just got to the farm by the time had got back so i sorted the caravan for him it was time to zero the guns before the last of the light goes, luckily the night vision fitted perfectly. I zeroed mine at about 15m cos last time that was the distance i was shooting at ,its a bit of a pa-lava getting on to my farm with it being high health we have to shower on and passing all the gear through seems to take ages. Dave had forgot his night vision and not found the IR filter so he was just torching it but within minutes of being on farm we had both got our first kills, i had another two a bit further down the shed on the feed hopper, I could hear Dave having good old time with the amount of shots going of in the distance we were out for about hour or so and it was time for a cuppa and more air/pellets. It was a good time to stop a lot of the sheds have timers on the light which switch off at about 9ish so when i went back out ,the farm was all off so i made my way over to the Big Barn then OMG! it was crawling at least 30 just ripe for the picking. I got down in position and there were about 5 sat on the runs for a old pallet leaning up against the wall, i aimed shot after shot its so funny they don't really run off when there mate has just being nailed next to them, they just look a bit bemused as there mate is just break dancing on the floor. Then two clips later the barn was looking like a mortuary. Time to move on and refill, the night carried on like that the only thing stopping us was the guns running out of air. At 1am it was time for me to call it a night, Dave carried on the slaughter so i gave him my baby but something was starting to get loose there were a few random shots going adrift.

 

 

 

 

The next day i picked up 57 and there were another 10 i could see but not able to get, so thats 67 and thats not counting the ones that manage to drag themselves back to the hole before they die. But i counted all the one's which won't be eating my expensive pig food so i think we did about 90 for the first night, that's not too bad. The second night was a lot quieter but i still got 10 in the first hour and Dave said he had already got 14 before i got there. The second night there were about 30 bodies so that was well over 100 for the two nights it was proper good fun too. Thanks to Dave for sparing the time to help me out.

Purely out of interest, is the pig farm not required to have some kind of pest control in place?

I hope to be popping over to see you with laura just before Christmas mate to have a beer with you and Emma and maybe pop some more scope camera rats if the offer is still open to me

 

Tony Wall is a good man and i new that he would sort you out mate with your shooting needs

 

Look after yourself mate and your family and ban Davy from shooting there on the farm as he's too good a shot and there wont be any rats left for me at Christmas if he keeps this awesome run up LOL

Hiya guy's.

 

Excellent write up. enjoyed the read.

 

Them little buckers certainly can do a lot of damage.

A local farm I shoot on had simular problems with the loom's being chewed out.

That sort of repair cost's dearly, and like you said Mark, there's the down time to consider aswell.

So you must get huge satisfaction from every shot you take.

Hi every one

As you know I went over to marks pig farm to give him some help in controlling the rat population, well what can i say.

 

There were loads of the little critters and what a disgusting animal it is, they were every where! I managed to get quiet a few on the lamp and then when mark called it a night I borrowed his HW100 with his NV set up on it ,and very nice indeed it was.

 

And it was spot on!

Must say I find it a bit creepy going in the pig pens knowing that the rats aren’t far away from me! And got a few frights on the Friday night, in the way of one running at me and another running over my Wellie’s. I can honestly say it did make me jump a few feet lol,

But this did not stop me from staying there till early hours of the morning

THWACKING!! Every rat I see, it was a right adrenalin buzz.

On the Saturday morning I went for a stroll around the fields, as mark had to go to work.

A 27yd standing! Shot, my standing shooting has improved tenfold over the week end. Marks pig farm should run intensive standing shooting courses lol

 

After my day time break mark & I was back at the rats, I took all the gear over and took advantage of marks HW100kt dressed in a NV unit.

 

And started THWACKING em again, and again, and again! We must have put a right dent in the population as after a while it went quiet. So around about midnight we called it a night.

Must say I find it a bit creepy going in the pig pens knowing that the rats aren't far away from me! And got a few frights on the Friday night, in the way of one running at me and another running over my Willie's. I can honestly say it did make me jump a few feet lol,

The Farm Manager when I told him said "Best thing to do in that situation, is just stand still and let em pass"

 

Nope my idea of playing footy and kicking em and stamping on em was way much more adrenaline fuelled fun (in hindsight that is at the time it was sheer terror!!!)

underwear was clean as can be it was good though

and mark actully caught one by stepping on its tail,he dont need an air rifle.

i think he is feral

couldnt beleive it, so i had to go quickly and get the air rifle and put one it its head,as it was squealing abit. horrible little !!
