if i were to sell a rifle is there a time limit on replacing that rifle for another of the same calibre.

No time limit, but you will need a variation on your certificate giving you the right to acquire a replacement. It's called a 1 for 1 variation and costs nothing, but you need to apply for it ahead of when you want it.

 

The only "time limit" practically is if you don't acquire the rifle before your FAC renewal, as they will argue that if you've not used the right then you don't need the rifle, so will take it off (sometimes)

If you make the case to the FEO when he visits, you should be ok.
