i think its the Dales that are most affected.. the bad winter did cause problems everywhere, but as you are all saying, they can even breed in cold, but mildish weather (now), and the fact they are doing suggests that the bunnys know they need to breed again before winter. The dales are wide and far, so disease has managed to spread far. The winter can't kill diaease as it's carried inside a nice warm bunny... it can halt the spread of it across the ground on humans and animals feet, but the only way animals cope with disease is to adapt (evolve) There are pockets of healthy rabbits in alot of places, but everyones havin a rough time who i speak to.. Lets just hope the disease doesn't evolve before the bunnys and we should have plenty of sport in the coming years...

A rabbit can start to produce young then if it turns cold abort the fetuses inside and reingest the goodnes had a few does like this last febuary

i have just cut my morning short ,i was ferreting some big deep old sets near to Foxton ,there seemed to be a lot of young rabbits still about,i think a cold snap will finish them off.

Thats my point the rabbits were dead or dying, it was pitiful to see the carcases laid about even blown about they were that lightweight at the end of last season now myxi is flea borne affecting rabbits nothing else so what did the fleas survive on till numbers of rabbits picked up and they have not to what they were but not scarce either

That might be true, but i was trying to make the point that disease cant be stopped by bad weather as the flas live on a host.. if the mixy flea is specific to rabbits only, it would still only need a couple to breed into thousands within a few weeks, and as we know, some bunnys seem to be very resilliant and mixy doesnt effect them, so they will happily carry the flea. They do become more scarse during winter, but it will never die out.. it isnt just mixy that is kiling bunnys, so do you know how vhd is spread???

Do a search for VHD in rabbits but be warned its nearly all to do with pet rabbits.
