Nik_B 3,790
My Lab is looking pretty good but I have noticed he has small patches of dry skin mostly on his body but one or two on his face. I guess I need to get him checked out by a vet first in case there is something causing this but I am also wondering if it is just his diet. In general he has a nice looking coat but the fur is a little dry. I have been feeding him on Hills Science Plan for Puppies and now switched to the large breed Science plan. We have been giving him tuna and sardines recently to see if this will help but I can't see any massive difference. Does anyone else have any experience they can share? I have to use a dry food as when I am away at work for a weeks my wife has to feed him and she has enough to contend with without a complicated diet for the dog. Any advice would be appreciated. captain jack sparrow 8
hills might be to rich for him, some come out in sores, less protein and add oil and a egg
Nik_B 3,790
Yes he has dry patches that look pink and sore, didn't notice them cos he has black fur but when I brushed him there were flakes of skin. He also has a patch of pink sore skin on his lip, not sure if that is related. Looks like another $$$ trip to the vet
Cold Ethyl 63
Skinners duck and rice is a good food for dry skin in dogs i have used it for a year now easy and dogs thrive on it helps keep a steady weight on them and isnt that dear about £23.99 for 15 kg some places it a bit cheaper others a bit more pricey. Nik_B 3,790
Thanks for all the advice. Gonna give skinners a go, its half the price of Hills. If I try giving him an egg do i give it raw? I'm loading him up on maceral and sardines at the moment.
Nik_B 3,790
hills might be to rich for him, some come out in sores, less protein and add oil and a egg Do you mean that there are too many carbs and not enough protein in his diet?
Nik_B 3,790
The skinners food arrived today....he loves it which is a good sign. He never really liked the Hills food and only ever ate it when he was starving which for a Lab is unusual! It will be interesting to see if his coat improves. I have also given him a Frontline treatment just to be sure he hasn't got fleas. Thanks for the advice! p.s He liked the raw egg.....took him a while to pluck up the courage to eat it though
