gnasher16 30,299
Tradition in english football went out the window a long time ago. You sold your league to chase the pound, or dollar as it is nowadays. The top 4 clubs are selling their soul to keep up with Europes elite and secure their top 4 statues. Its a sad sight watching what was some of the worlds most traditional club being dragged through courts around the world. Where will it end? Its going to get worse. What is happening with Liverpool is only a heart beat away from happening at Man U.... as for man City, Chelsea, etc.... only a matter of time. The whole thing is balancing on a knife edge. The liverpool fans are glad to see the back of the gruesome twosome but its out of the pan into the fire. Its not going to change though, you've took the money now reap the rewards... R.I.P english football. You say that but it only really applies to 2 clubs Man Utd and Liverpool.....Chelsea are debt free and Arsenal only owe for the new ground which is a manageable debt.I kind of admire the way Arsenal are run so to say the top 4 are selling their souls is not true. gnasher16 30,299
well if thats the case, smaller clubs will not have anything to do... I would personally love to see lesser clubs pushing to win stuff, rather than clubs that were once big, trying to keep there, and their fans, saying for 20yrs, we'll be back... I would love to see forest up there, they were built by a great man. you must remember, qpr, luton, watford, leicester they have all seen the big time in the top division, but we dont cry over there spilt milk, so why liverpools... Everton, well they are different, they know were they stand in the game, they are a top 10 club that are capable of winning trophys...maybe there neighbours should learn of them.. It has been the same for city for the last 30yrs, they knew there place in the game, and even took relegation on the chin, now they are well at it. I think they have stepped in liverpools place, as did chelsea when the russian moved in.. Just to be clear im no Liverpool fan,but some folk seem to get a little carried away with this just because they had so much success in the 70,s and ,s....no they havent been that dominant since.....but " been saying for 20 years we,ll be back " ....well id say winning the champions league and fa cup 5 years ago wasnt too bad !...no different to Arsenal really just havent won nothing in the last 5 years thats all.As for City and Chelsea....that could just as easy been Huddersfield Town and Leyton Orient....as the familiar chant go,s....." where were you when you were shit " pretty much sums it up for me.Proper football clubs build success they dont buy it. Also,i dont really think you can compare Watford,Qpr,Leicester,Luton Town etc as traditionally big clubs on par with Liverpool just because they spent time in the top league Edited October 17, 2010 by gnasher16

gnasher16 30,299
Arsenal are the only club which you could say has a safe future out of Liverpool, man U, Man City, Chelsea.... The others are all owned by people who dont have football at heart, a dangerous recipe if you ask me. We all know how fans can turn on owners when things aren't going right, will these guys stand back and take it? It happened at my own club, Celtic, where we were close to getting closed down after the fans revolted. Fergus McCann bought us over but that was for peanuts comepared to what the english clubs are reportedly worth. Its all false economy as well, t.v money, sponsership makes up a huge chunk of your finances. These are incomes which can be dropped in a second, just look what happened to the championship. So when clubs run up debts of 5,6,700 million, you got to fear for the future. Couldnt argue with what your saying, personally i detest the likes of Chelsea,Man City etc....i hope Abramovich has it away on his toes one of these years and leaves them where he found them, same with City.....but the reality is these are smart buiseness folk, and smart buiseness folk understand that historically England is a massive and passionate football nation, lets face it before the premier league the old division 1 was low on attendances yet the games were far cheaper to watch and live football on tv was the fa cup final only, once per year !...,meaning in todays times people in general are happy to pay much more money through the gates and through tv etc etc and that is only going to get bigger, hell why wouldnt a wealthy buisenessman cash in on such a sure bet and a fantastic product. The popularity of football in this country is the buisenessmans insurance. So whether they have football at heart or not makes no difference to the wealth of a club....I believe a club like Arsenal although well run from a buiseness point show a real lack of desire and are bordering on cheating from a sporting point. They do just enough to qualify for Europe every year therefore getting all the financial rewards that go with it without really putting in a serious challenge to a domestic league which with more investment they could more than likely win.....buiseness or sport,if i was an Arsenal fan id be happy my clubs safe but fuming they show no desire to win things......but you can bet your bollocks they will keep getting 60,000 plus through the doors every week and until fans stand their ground and demand more a club like Arsenal will continue to get away with it.....in some ways you got to admire their owners balls if not their overly loyal supporters who just cant see it.....and their owners know that. Arsenal have a 40,000 waiting list for season tickets so when true fans step out in protest at their lack of ambition in steps immediate replacements and no money is down......thats a great product in any buisnessmans eyes ....Talk about getting away with it.
