The Cost of a Lurcher Pup

Recommended Posts

I rekon he said £150 to keep the idiots off the thread that dont like parting with cash, ive never bred pups and dont intened to either unless new stock is needed, but i know alot of people that would be happy to sort me out if needed, and obviously i would return the favour! I dont think i would ever advertise my pupos on here if i had any anytime, if i did i would price them high at like £280+ to keep the idiots away, then when i answer the phone with interest i will explain why i priced them and the do the deal for £100-£150. jmo

I would rather pay someone £60 £70 £ for a pup where the breeding is honest and no poor lies about what the parents have done and still doing.   Some people believe that because a certain name may

nothing to mates but think of it like this would you pay more for a bmw than a mini? if your selling anything of quality it shoiuld be worth more than something of less quality id always pay more for good lines proven dogs so on if your not willing to pay out you shouldent have a dog unless its mates i recently traveld 1440 miles for my pup cost me a lot more than £150 in deisel although the pup was free i would have traveld alot further for him to

Personally i would only ever breed to keep the line going, mates would be welcome to a pup for nothing but any remaining pups would be £150, any folk that tried to haggle, tyre kickers etc would be shown the door. I would also be very picky who my pups went too, the truth is if i thought you were a numpty you wouldn't get one, i'd trust my gut instinct.........IMO £150 for a well reared pup from tested parents is feck all, I paid £500 for a pup from particular lines back in 1999.......

I have thought about this subject more than a few times over the years and its difficult to say who i would agree with though imo as someone who has been hunting lurchers and terriers for 15 yrs i have had a few pups free from mates and paid £150 for a terrier some ive kept and some ive passed on as pets the ones past on were not done so on the basis of turning a coin or simply because i was fed up with it but because it just never made the grade even when they were from right good stock i also agree with the stupidity of prices put on certain breeds which imo were accidents and someone made a killing off them(lab/doodles etc.etc) which is realy why i agree with vouching for ppl i recently had a litter of 4 terriers kept one for myself one is going to a young lad from this site shaunpauls7 of which someone vouched for him and i have seen how good he lookes after his dog vinnie (been lamping with this dog and he is coming on good ) though imo between £50-£150 is a good reasonable price for a pup that might not make it or wrap itself round a tree or fence first time out (had that happen before

Err

Me no comprenda! Mates had pups for free, and tear are good mates (where) and they pulled out, and like I said one even moved the pup on (would you have given him a slap?)

If I could have, all 9 go for free to good mates then I wouldn't have given a toss what it cost me to breed, just that some see fit to take the piss.

One lad who I charged for a pup, he came over with his mrs, I took em to the pub, paid for a meal & drinks, then took em lamping with my dog, them the day they were coming to collect the pup I took em ferreting with the dam.

How much more could I do? And as this lad and his mrs were a young couple, when they gave me the money I gave it em back as I could see a real genuine love for the pup and I knew it would be there till the day it dies.

And thats someone I didn't know inside out.

Like I said I I ever breed again (unlikely unless 1 for myself and a hard cull) then it will be full money and they can have it back in 12 months if they still gave the dog.

Sad fact that when stuffs free it can get moved on etc...

I'm just saying, the Lurcher/working dog field doesn't need to

good post , i know exactly where your coming from . i've been there .... arseholes just taking the p**s . i find the best way is hard cull at birth !!! be selfish and keep what you want yourself !!! you won't go far wrong  you don't need a whole litter so why give the bitch all that hard work of feeding them and then there is the cost of weaning and feeding them , wormers and vacines ...... b*ll*x i say hard cull is best

I know of a man asking 1200 for a saluki X greyhound its ridiculous he says there the top dogs the greyhound was a show bred greyhound that has only ever had about 20 runs in 6 years and most of them on a squirrel in the park . the saluki was a top hunting dog ive seen it run it is really good but he has friend in Arabia who he got it off it took him ages to sort the papers out

FREE to mates and 100 to others but i guess i wouldnt breed a bitch if i didnt have enuff people i know wanting a pup to save pups getting passed about and breed off

also just because a pup is £1000 dont mean its going to be any better than one for £100

Spot on T.C but even a good mate shouldnt mind about paying £50 for all efforts put in to the pups and £1000 / £1200 for a lurcher no matter how good its parents are is riddiculous you would be sh t scared to let it off the lead and for that kind of price i would want a 20carrot gold feet on the thing oh and bulletproof/shatterproof bones
