heart of wales 19
Some interesting comments its a subject were everyone's opinion seems to differ,I only breed a litter if I intend to keep one back or for good friends ,thats why I tend to put a lot into them thought energy and money. If You wants something on a plate You 99% of the times have to pay for it if You want a hamburger there is one price steak theres another way of the world unfortunately. I also believe that if someone paid a reasonable price such as £120 and it was advertised as such it would cut out a lot of the time wasters and dog abusers, there are far to many what I call Bed & Breakfast lurcher owners now, instead of investing in something decent and I mean the breeder and the buyer, they breed or buy shit jackers or dogs opening up or stock worriers, then find they dont work or they got bad habits, then flog them on to the next person I seen an add they other day in a local paper Labrododdle or whatever you call them £650 for a mongrel alongside it Deerhound x collie grey pups £75 I know where my money would have gone but why such a difference This is My German Shepherd x Greyhound Worth every penny Quote Link to post

artic 595
I would rather pay someone £60 £70 £ for a pup where the breeding is honest and no poor lies about what the parents have done and still doing. Some people believe that because a certain name may or may not be in that line that they can put the highest price on a pup! There's too much crap out there because there are too many greedy liars that take peoples hard earned money. Home a pup off someone you really know and can trust, that way you have a head start. 2 Quote Link to post

RossM 8,119
spot on with the breeding for yourself, i intend to line my bitch next year keeping 1 for myself and the intended sires owner wants 2, a relative wants 1 and a few friends are showing a small interest at the moment, in an aideal world she'd have 4 pups but chances are a fine thing, and im not heartless enough to cull excess pups before some one suggests it, i will also stipulate that if for any reason it doesnt work out, the pups come back to me instead of being past from pillar to post, Quote Link to post

Guest chook
thats why u always see mistreated dogs and rescued lurchers. if people dont put a good price tag on their litters you get all sorts of people coming to get them. £-£100 is a joke imo as most kids take that to school with them nowadays. if people were more responsible and only bred when they wanted to renew their line instead of using their supposedly "best friend" to pay the bills only sensible people would have dogs in the first place, maybe then u could give them away eh instead of every tom in the village having one. i may be wrong but just my 2 penneth worth I honistly dont think price tag matters - ive seen peds that people have bought for 500 upwards being mistreated or dumped. I think people do need to take more responcibility when they breed, and also peeps who buy need to check the seller out, if less pups were bought from back yard breeders/peddalers then these peeps wouldnt carry on, as it would be a waste of time and money. 1 Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7
the difference in prices is huge you only have to look in the CMW to see that !!! but when you see the "fashinoable" dogs deing sold for ridiculous amounts the prices quoted on her seem more than fair to me. i would never breed, but, if i did the pups would only go to people i knew and for no charge........a high price tag dosn't gaurantee a decent home. scent 509
id personally give them away mate, the way i see it is, if i cant afford to breed a litter, then i wont, id never be looking to make money back, man after my own heart, down my way we give them to mates who are always willing tho repay the favour in the future when your stuck .I gave my colliexwhippetxhound away last week for free to a chap who wanted him for rabbits.Hes delighted with him so far catching daytime and on on the lamp.He rang me friday offering me a 12 month old terrier for free but sadly my kennells are full ,its just the way we do things.Personally i think money will ruin the dog world but thats just my opinion Quote Link to post
