TEXICAN 10
Hello all, I am from Texas and I have a partner who owns Patts and I have had the privelage of getting to tag along with him and his dogs for the last few years. I am very close to getting a dog of my own and I was wondering what is the best Locator collar for a low price? My buddy uses the Barryvox pulse made by Mammut, but the whole set up is well over $700 and I just can't seem to squeeze that right now. I have found some older model Pieps Opti 4 Recievers around the $200 range. Is anyone familliar with this brand or model it seems to be a very simple older style with just a few blinking lights but I figured I have to find something to start with until I can rob a bank and buy a Barryvox. I have looked on e-bay and could not find bellman and flint and only 1 or 2 debens. Thanks in advance "TEXICAN". Quote Link to post
ginga john 268
Forget anything with deben on it that isn't the old grey box (mark 1) The mark 1 works ok but are not a patch on the avalanche locators The Pieps box and collar from Bellman & Flint is good and the new rechargeable collar is a lot better than the first one that takes batteries The Barryvox pulse is V good especially with the bellman collar but still works well with the ortovox collar The model before the pulse is the the Opto 3000 (or could be 2000) which again is good but is noticeably slower than either the Pieps or the pulse I have seen the ortovox D1 used as well but that was not as good as the barryvox pulse or the Pieps B&F If you are on a budget i would suggest that you try and find the Mk1 deben, usually around £ with a collar but be prepared for it to just stop working at any moment as they are old kit now Probably better to save the pennies up and get one of the new kits, after all whats a dog worth !
