adamb20 22
what benefits would a saluki give to a pack, mainly hunting medium sized fields and woodland.? cheers. Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
A bit of a waste of that type of dog imho the reason i never botherd with one despite being offerd a pure saluki bitch meny years ago.Dont get me wrong no doubt they will adapt from a pup to the ground you hunt as they are a bit more versatile than people give them credit for.atb dell Quote Link to post

arcticgun 4,548
ok cheers, jus i would like a pure saluki once i get my kennles built think ah might just leave it then. Don't be put of by old misconceptions mate I run mine on shortfields, hills, quarries , woods, large fields, once on fen and he can and will do the job anywhere, Im not saying he is a world beater, in fact he is far from it and still only very young, they tend to mature later than most typs of dog do, but even at 15 month if he dont make the cut coursing single handed, he will make a very good allround lurcher. I honestly think to get the very best out of them you have to understand the breed itself, be prepared to look outside the box training wise and have a great deal of patience, likesay not everyones cup of tea but if you click with em they make a great lurcher and a loyal companion. A good few lads are currently grafting pures and not only in the coursing game, some to a great degree of sucess. On the plus side of em, you have endless stamina, best feet in the buisness, thousands of years of selective breeding which remains largely unspoiled, top class prey drive, very easy to condition as well As said above not everyones cup of tea for sure, but if you want to try summat different....why not Edited October 15, 2010 by arcticgun Quote Link to post

chartpolski 23,279
Now, before the Saluki guys give me hell; I've owned and run pure Salukis in their own enviroment, and I love them !! BUT, a pure Saluki will add nothing to a "pack" here in ther UK ! Salukis have added to the coursing blood, where now, Saluki Hybrids are virtualy unbeatable on the coursing field, and saluki blood is even being dded to lamping dogs, for the obvious stamina and good feet that they add. Nothing wrong with people having pure Salukis, they do a job, and I will probably have another one; but to answer the question..it's probably not the wisest move to add one to a "bobbery" pack. Cheers. Quote Link to post

riohog 5,701
see no advantage in having them as part of a pack , they are free thinking , and possesive . run them on there own , they are more than capable Quote Link to post
