Hi Lads,

Tomorrow I will be building a platform in the middle of my duck pond to put a feeder on. What design of feeder works well for ducks ? Would I use a Spring or v pan or letter box ???

Any other ideas much appreciated.

Thanks lads

Andrew

I recall that ducks were quite good at raiding the pheasant hoppers that I had set near a wood land pond but they made a mess!. These were45 gallon drums with little letterboxes cut in the base that spilled grain into metal trays.

The Wetland trust at Arundel uses hoppers on legs with spring agitators in some of its enclosures . The springs have big (white I think) pads on the end for the ducks to knock to release food . I have been trying to find the picture I took but think I must have deleted it . I think that for a lot of ducks you will need to have several hoppers and be prepared to move them about or it will get pretty mucky and disease ridden if you don't .Hope this helps a bit

Hi mate any chance of a picture to see what your talking about ?

Andrew.d I`ll go to the pond tomorrow and take a pic. we also use and prob prefer (less mess) a Cabelas auto spin feeder. you can get them from :-http://syconproducts.co.uk/Products/Products.aspx?Category=Automatic-Feeders

all you do is attach to a barrel and fit legs Tony A.

Andrew.

Hope this helps, i`ve no idea where it came from. the spring is open ended and prob should be a bit higher, but basicly ducks rattle the spring(which is fairly soft) and the grain falls out.
