T12KY 0
hi everyone. just after abit of advice/opinions. i currently shhot with a .22 bsal lightning xl with gas ram fitted. i like the gun in general and enjoy shooting with it but been thinking for past week or so about upgradeing to something newer and better if possible on my budget. i am wanting to spend around £300 - £350 for my next gun. any advice on sticking with gas ram or going to Co2 etc would be great. and also what guns are good value within my budget. many thanks T12KY Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Hi mate, If you want to upgrade to PCP then I'd say keep your scope and mounts from your tactical, go onto this site and look at the BSA Ultra. http://www.youngmans.com Its really cheap from them at £280. You will be able to get a charging unit second hand or almost new if you look around for you remaining £70 mate. Here is some info: BSA Ultra The latest gun from BSA the Ultra is another innovate pre-charged design from the great John Bowkett.. The Ultra is loaded in two stages, first the pellet is loaded into the breech, after which the action is cocked using the new "CK Action Primer" at the front of the stock. This system also allows for the decocking of the rifle for absolute safety if the intended shot is then not taken. Single Shot. Phantom 631
I am a huge fan of the Air Arms S200 for PCP But from what Si say's, you'd be hard pressed to go better than that on your budget (apart from the S200 lol) Phantom Quote Link to post
spike25blue 55
I would say go for the air arms myself there are a few models S400 S410 S200 and S510 but that's a bit more money where abouts are you buddy as my father in law is a gunsmith and has a few secondhand rifles in Atb rob Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi mate. I also have a AAs200, brilliant bit of kit and well worth consideration. You can tune and add on as you go at a later date, i.e. reg, brass this and that etc. Very happy with the way mine performs. Here she is after a few mod's. Good luck with what ever you choose, there is so much out there now. ATB. Bill Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
Hi mate, Firstly, the advice the guys above have given is good. Go for a pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) rifle. Steer clear of CO2 powered rifles, because despite what some sections of the shooting press write, they aren't good enough for serious shooting (although great fun for plinking!) as their power is so inconsistent and affected by slight changes in tempreature etc. I'm a fan of both the BSA Ultra and the Air Arms S200 as the lads have suggested. I looked at an S200 as a second rifle a few months ago, but at the moment, they're almost as expensive as the S400, so I went with an Ultra tactical, which I'm incredibly impressed with. Personally, I'd follow Si (Zini)'s advice and go with the Ultra, but it might be worth considering something like a Hatsan AT44-10- Youngmans are offering them at a crazy price at the moment. If you can get down to your local gunshop, go and get your hands on a few different rifles, and see what you like the feel of. Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Ron. I see now what you mean mate, the AA S200 has gone up in price But I also see the B.S.A Ultra has come down in price.....wonder why Bill. Quote Link to post

Because of the free publicity that we keep giving them about how bloody good they are and how Exclusive the S200 Club is :11: The shops are trying to capitalise on our comments , Just look to the left and see the Accreditation :11: Phantom Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
Areet Daz! The Ultra is a cracking rifle mate and I think ideal for what you need, as Si has already said the new price is very good for one and twinned with the scopes you already have would make a nice bit of hunting kit. The Air Arms range are also good and the new & second hand prices are very reasonable. If you're buying secondhand try and find a deal that includes the charging kit, there are a few out there If you need any more advice gimme a bell Darryl Quote Link to post

rossy08 33
if your not sorted already ill give you an idea of what you can get. for £350 of my hard earned pennies i got 13 diving bottle hose and gadge (all in test) aa s410 carbine, mint condision hawke 6.5-20-50 night eye scope bipod aa silencer logun bag. if you look around you can get your self a good deal. if you were to price all that up new your looking nearly £1000,give or take. but with that said the bsa is a very good little rifle. atb Andy Quote Link to post
