Phantom 631
Hey Rob You would only need an FAC for a ram if it was producing over the 12ft/lbs Muzzle energy Who ever told you that was talking out their gas port lol A Number 3 Ox mainspring will fit Phantom 1 Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Don't fit an OX!!!! It'll over-spring your Tracker and it'll be horrible to shoot.... I had one with a gas-ram and it made the gun much better to shoot, no twangs, a lot less rattles, much smoother and quieter too. Donnyc on here sells them, drop him a PM, he's a good bloke to deal with I've had a few rams off him and they're sound. Made by the same folks who make the rams for Theoben. Cheers. Phantom 631
Well in there Andy, I'd forgotten about DonnyC Yes he does them at a very good price and as I said earlier you won't need an FAC for a Sub 12. Dunno why people are so against Ox Springs though Most springs are made by the same companies and if they were really that shite; dont you think that the company would have gone bust by now? They've been making the springs (well actually they have been Marketing the springs) since well before I heard of them back in the late 70's It would be interesting to find the manufacturer of the springs and find out how many different companies market them Phantom Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
The problem with OX springs is that they've been tradeing on the myth that they created for themselves many years ago that they had more spring power due to their square cross section. The early one's were pretty good quality but from the mid 's on, they're crap. They snap on a regular basis, colapse very easily in use and tend to over-spring nearly every gun they're fitted to. It is odd though, 'cos Titan springs are made by the same folks who make springs for OX and they're normally very good. As for stuff not being any good and still selling, can I just mention Prometheus pellets??? Cheers, Tony. 1 Quote Link to post

I know that a company (I thought it was Titan) made a square spring, not just a cross section but a spring that would not roll down hill lol (if you get what I mean). As for the Prometheus Pellets, are they actually still manufacturing or did they just push out such a huge quantity that it's gonna take a couple of centuries of nieave newbies to go through the numbers Speaking of PromPels, I've still got 4 tubs in .22 Wonder if they'd be any good in the Westlake B2 I've just finished Refurbing They could just turn it into a smoothbore with all the crap plastic they leave in the barrel :11: Phantom Quote Link to post

As I said above. What you'll also notice is the gun will be a bit harded to cock ( ) and the recoil will be different.... That last bit is hard to explain, there's no more or less recoil but with a ram fitted, they go off with a bit more of a snap rather than the lazy recoil you get with a steel spring. This is no bad thing 'cos the lock time is reduced quite a bit (the time between the trigger letting all the mechanical gubbins go and the projectile leaving the barrel). This tends to make them a little less hold sensative in use... Cheers. Edit.... It's a while since I got one from Donny but they used to be around £40. Titan do a square wire spring and it's exactly the same spring as the OX, I'd forgotten about them... it was their normal round wire spring I was refering to, they're normally very good. Good point about them Proms.... Maybe they're still selling off stock-piles of the bloody things that were made 20 years ago to folks who don't know any better... The new tin pellets from Prometheus (Dynamic) are top shelf stuff. I've not found a gun that does not shoot well with them. I use them in my HW90 .20 and my RWS52 .177 and they're the best pellets I've found for both. Shame they're so feckin' expensive!!!! Edited October 13, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
