If a dog can still take quarry consistently at 10 years old then he aint seen enough huntin to even be closed to tested.

where do you draw the line and say a dog is tested? a tested dog in one mans mind might not be tested in another mans mind

Imo u could breed two dogs that have never worked and still end up with a good dog..you only get out of a dog what u put into it. some pups are born better than others physicaly which may make them fa

myself i would always go best to best worker where possible. its always a lottery though and like others have said a lot of it is down to the training but you must have something in the dog to work with i believe. speed would be the base ingredient for me followed by conformation of parents. its no use having the best striking/hardest dog if it doesnt get there in the first place. dont under estimate the runt of the litter either, i've seen some belters over the years!
