Guest stewie
Looking at all these threads lately of obviously unsuitable (for want of a better word) crossed takeing mammoth amounts of Deer, Fox etc it makes me wonder.....do any of these people ACTUALLY know what it means to hunt large amounts of this type of quarry every season or do they think because they have done one or two that the dog is a legend? Is it something more and they plan a litter but want to get a bit of advertising in beforehand? Are they being totally honest about the type of land they hunt or are we all fenced into deer parks? I dont doubt one or two bits and bats can be taken on the odd ocassion, but in numbers (real number)......come on boys, wake up There are a lot of jokers, liars and dreamers who say they have done what they have not. But equally there are lots of arrogant fools who brand anyone who says they have done something that they themselves havn't as a joker, liar or dreamer with no more proof than. . . .. they don't believe them. well said jai!!!! shaaark 10,702
Used to chase big numbers alot when i was younger...nowadays im content to catch what i think is acceptable to prove the dogs mettle....they are companions not machines....i,ll leave the number chasing to the young uns now who think they,ve got something to prove...atb stabba That's wrong with with most it of all nowadays , too many idiots who are just looking for numbers. Wasn't like that when I started, and as far as I 'm concerned never will be. I don't post often, but this kind of crap really pisses me off! Quote Link to post
ReggieCuz 18
You get the same in Oz with the piggers. Lots of dreamers banging on about their dogs catching 15 bigguns single handed every day of the year. In my experience I would more catch a pig on most outings, but sometimes I wouldn't. Sometimes you get a pig an hour into your weekend hunt and it's a tad disappointing cos you wanted the whole weekend to be out in the bush. But, you gotta take your pig and get it to the freezer before it gets flyblown. Unless of course it's a big boar, then you keep hunting for a younger sow for the table and keep the boar for the dogs. I had some good dogs and got some acceptable numbers, but most definitely not the best dogs around. Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
respect the quarry we hunt and the way we go about our sport Quote Link to post
HALTY LAD 92
I see this place hasnt changed a lot! Well, my opinion on the subject would be that I really dont care, if some deluded twats feel the need to lie on here to boost their ego's, but its a sad state of affairs if this is done to help sales of pups On a personal note I think its best that I keep my game book records to me and close friends... dont want to make you all jealous Quote Link to post

gatwick 6
Numbers are very important a dog wont get "style" without being shown a lot of its intended quarry you have to use a bit of common with a young dog not wanting to sour it, but once its mature it needs to see as much as possable, with as much success as possable, how are u going to judge a dog if its only out once a week for a couple of runs.On the roe and fox good numbers were and are possable to take in the right conditions ie weather. We used to be able to post pics on this site week in week out showing and proving what numbers can be taken but those days are gone now.If u think u have a good dog taking it out once a week and killing a fox or 2 your wrong or a roe or 2 your wrong you need to push your dogs and yourselves a bit harder see what you can achieve.or see if you dog jacks lol. boyo 1,398
when i was a lot younger numbers did matter didnt feel we had a good night if there wasnt a big bag in the morning . those were the days when i was out every night i could getting in at 5.30 and clocking on at 6am nowadays ide rather see one good run than loads of piss poor ones ive travelled all over the country hunting and drove 4 hrs each way to end up with one run . but as long as it was a good run and some of the otheres had runs it doesnt matter . bit like sex really quality is much better than quality .lol.and it doesnt need to be a huge lurcher to take big stuff regular once had a 23inch one that took fallow regular and didnt need fences to help her either .nowadays dont get out half as much in fact not anywhere near that ive got a saluki x greyhound i bred 7 months old and know deep down she will never reach her full potential because of the fact i cannot give her the work required she needs to make her what i used to need and want but she will still do for me nowadays .
