pauly58 12
I was the after sales manager for a nissan dealer & since Renault bought the controlling share in Nissan the cars are crap. Anything pre 2000 was bombproof but the later ones !!!! The new micras we could barely keep them running long enough to get off the forecourt, they eventually had to do an unofficial recall to replace major electrical components. Almeras & Primeras were just as bad, breaking down on the road, just don't touch them.
SHARPSHOOTER! 40
No, its definately the car. They have a very bad reputation for doing this. Soft as shite engines and economy parts. Just to add, I know how you feel as I cooked my van a few weeks back. Out of interest, what do you think is wrong with it? FTB I know for a fact that the timing chain done the damage mate......a known fault in that engine. 75k miles and it goes bang and Nissan say "Unlucky" but your on your own. Happened to 3 other people i have now spoken too and yet Nissan still maintain that there is "not" a fault...... Never again will i have a Nissan, there customer service is the pits Sorry to sound against but as you say a known fault ???? As far as i'm lead to believe all affected engines had a recall developed (maybe you re's was and the mechanic never did the job yet claimed the doe) only a thought .. As also stated the driver plays a big part in the vehicle's life (as hard as it is to believe) but if the timing chain was at fault as you say (who am i to disagree) there would have been signs it was faulty !!!! IE, hard starting ,poor acceleration ,a terrible rattle at start up and the list goes on......... Sadly every car or pick up or vehicle has there flaws ,,,,admittedly the Toyota is almost infallible until there USA escapade, but hey if it's going to save you millions as most recalls do then you ain't going to do it unless you shout hard enough, sadly the USA only seem to have that luxury , look at the Volvo when the throttle failed , you are in the fast lane driving a T5 (fast Volvo) doing 125mph plus and the throttle fails , the car plummets to 50mph in a instant and you can accelerate !!!!!! Simply every car ,van or pick up has its flaws and if you maintain them as you should then these flaws should be rectified before any major damage has been done.... SADLY THESES ARE FACTS !!!! Good points but no amount of servicing would have found a fault with the timing chain. The vehicle was a great starter, pulled better than my cousins 53 plate warrior.......it did have a 'tick' when it first started but went when the jeep heated up.I am not a mechanic..... It was far from abused by me but i cant speak for the owners before me. I only know about the faults after the breakdown as i have done my best to find out and find out i have. My gripe is with Nissan and the way they have conducted themselsves to me, i hope by writing this on here they lose a few customers

John Keswick 119
I had a 02 navara up until recently, to be honest it was a good motor all the time i had it, but there was a fault with it. Every now and again, normally if you started it and stopped it quickly, the engine would rev at about 1500 - 2000 rpm. To reset, you had to start it up, not touch the throttle and leave it ticking over for about 5 minutes, it would then reset itself. Obviously a manufacturing fault, but nissan wouldnt fix it.
