Hi, Just a quick question.. My waste management company are just looking into removing fallen stock from farms and will sometimes be required to humanely dispatch various animals.. What would be the chances of me been granted a FAC for a revolving pistol for the purpose of this? I have been refused a shotgun certificate on my past history (drink driving, caution for assault and arrested for a public order offence).. If I couldnt get a FAC what other options would there be?

Thanks

Shaun

you would require a slaughtermans license..

can get humane killers without a lisence.

Thanks for your reply. The vet I spoke to said a revolving pistol would be a better option for the larger animals such as horses. How would I go about getting the slaughtermans license though?

If the police believe you are not a safe person to hold a firearm, then the chances of being granted a handgun as a humane killer are pretty slim.

A captive bolt humane killer would be your next best option, and no licence is required for one.

Cheers for that.

Think I might give the FAC a miss for now then.. How long would I be looking before I could re apply for my SGC though if I was refused before? Its not as though I have a long history of previous, had a drink driving conviction and was arrested for a public order offence both 7 years ago and a police caution for assault 3 years ago, other than that im clean. Would like my SGC mainly for clay shooting.. Would it go better on my part to join a gun club and regularly shoot with their guns first? BASC said maybe wait a year from my 1st application and re-apply with a letter explaining the details of my history and also what I have done since to show I have changed my life..

Thanks

Without wishing to pry Shaun, were the caution and arrest due to alcohol related incidents? If so, you'd do well to prove to them that you've stopped drinking, as the three offences all being alcohol related would tend to point to you being unfit due to an inability to control your drinking. Please don't think I'm having a go, I'm not, just trying to point out how they might see it. If you have a history of alcohol related offending, especially involving violence then you can understand how they might see you having access to weapons as a big issue.

Of course if they weren't alcohol related, then they might still see it as a problem. If you have proven in the past to be incapable of controlling your anger then they might still see you as a danger, even though it was a while ago.

Again, in no way am I trying to be personal, or to have a go, or even suggest that you're a violent person or anything like that, but from your history the police might well decide that's the case (hence why you were declined for SGC previously.) Just trying to point out the viewpoint that they might take of you and your history.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

I am a licensed slaughter man who collected fallen stock every day for a living ad never had any need for a fac pistol the accless and shelvoke humane pistol killed every animal you will ever come into contact with just by changing the charge the licence is issued after sitting in on a course run b the meat standards agency but you would have to be competent in animal slaughter first as you would struggle I would say for them to issue an in experienced person with the ticket due to animal welfare any one can pull a trigger not everyone can do it properly and as you will appreciate the likes of bulls and horse are large and potentially dangerous
