I'd say a proper wheeton is a pleasure to own a lot less temperamental that a bull can be we have had both and working wheetons are a lot less hassle especially round terriers

nearly ever genuine working wheaten i,ve seen from a long line of workers have nearly been worse than pure bulls when it comes to other dogs etc..

Wheatens were bred extensively over here for one purpose Badger Trials and were used extensively for just that.Not for messing at holes pulling out foxes or running through brambles like a fairy after rabbits.People on this site can try and dress them up any way they like and tell us what his coat is like and what height he is and i hope mine is good with the cat and i hope he wont be naughty.A proper bred Wheaten was bred to go up a shore and do his duty.A proper bred Wheaten will fight until he kills or is killed.That defines him as a game dog.Aeron I presume when you say there is only one truly Game Dog you mean The American Pit Bull Terrier I agree he is a good game terrier.Many years ago I seen plenty of them put in there place by a dog that the Irish trialed as well called The Staffardshire Bull Terrier.And i seen a few Wheatens back then would take no shite from them either.So I believe all the things that I and plenty others seen them do entitles them to be called GAME DOGS.

in the short then it is a game dog whith a good hunting instinct build of a heavy bull and mixs with other dogs but wont back down and if threatened attacks ,but is very steady with people .

a friend of mine bred a wheaton x grey to a bullx and rates it exceptional well .

As i said i want a dog as a house dog but can be used for working with terriers and lurchers also.

IMO a WORKING wheaton shud be kennelled alone if possible. Maybe not a good choice of house dog especially if other dogs about.That is of course this thread is about the working type wheaton

I know off a lad had one chained at side of house.he went to work one day but forgot his lunch and came back only to find the wheaten dragging his child into it's box.Lucky he was there when he got the child of it he painted the box with both barrells.

I ve seen many excellant wheatens working and seen dog out of same line with totally different temperments towards terriers and people.

I kennel all dogs seperate as it's easy enough to lose em when they re working never mind in a kennel fight.

when i said a house dog i didnt mean i was going to keep it in the house with cuddley toys brushing his coat spending quality cuddle time by the fire , if i have a house dog its a dog that cant be in the kennels with the other dogs and will double up as a gaurd/companion but will be worked also ,ive kept pure bulls this way they were great insde anyway im transgressing ....ive decided if i have a wheaton after everyones comments it wont be a pure one as i couldnt justify its use as a soley drawing dog it just wouldnt get the work its intended for with me but i do like a lot of there qualitys and im thinking of putting either a wheaton /grey into my bullxs or even a pure wheaton across my bullx ..which is a long way of so its just a pipe dream at the mo, thanks for your comments lads much appreciated ..if you have anmore comments about wheatons or wheatons xs keep em coming im happy to lean more about em.
