will NEVER use straw again

Recommended Posts

I never use hay or straw any more, I only use shavings and cross shredded paper mixed 50/50, I found ticks on my ferrets in the Summer when they had not been out to work, so I suspected the hay had harboured ticks, not had any problems since

Maybe they caught them from you :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

Not a chance, the Mrs frontlines me once a month without fail :D

Our ferret court needed its weekly clean out and my daughter bought 3 bags of straw at the local pet centre at £4 a small bag to put in the big sleeping compartment we normaly use shredded paper but we had run out so the daughter thought she would give them a change the ferrets a couple of days later started scratching like mad took a look at them and they are infested with ticks they were stuck behind there ears and even stuck on the faces of a couple of the jills so rather than going ferreting today we spent the whole day sterilising the whole ferret court my daughter picked off and killed what ticks she could off the 10 ferrets and i had some frontline left under the sink so we frontlined them all and the jack russell hope this has killed them all

we will never use straw again you think at £4 a little bag it would be treated with something to reduce the ticks to say we were pi**ed off would be an understatement

personally i allways treat the straw myself and never have any problems .... them bags your buying are a bit pricey try asking a local farmer to sell you a bale .....£3 or maybe £4 per bale
