Hi there I have got a 4month old beddlington whippet x colie whippet greyhound and I wonderd if it is ok at the age he is now to take him out with my mates dog lamping only to watch tho I will not start him untill he is fully grown at the age of 12 months or more as I know I will ruin him and also to take him to watch as I'm ferreting thanks for taking the time to read this I will put a pic up of him later thanks agin cal

Personally I wouldn't mate. If you are out for several hours, lots of chases... Imagine how nuts the dog will go watchin chase after chase without getting released.

ive done it with my pup but only let him watch a few runs not far from home so the pup isant out for long .as said above you dont want the pup geting frustrated.

he is 16 weeks old matey, You would be better off working on some basic training, socialise by all means but lamping i would pass for the momment, introduce him to the ferts etc so he is happy to be with them

let him be a puppy for a while and about 7mouth old take him lamping let him watch first few times. then when u think he is ready let him have a go .not to much.atb

my advice would be dont.mabey get too excited and start to yap .then yer in for a tough time.

i prob wouldn't as it may start to get frustrated and start to yap, dont want it to pick up any bad habbits , but if you did decide to go maybe just go for a quick watch

What would be the reason for you wanting him to'watch' another dog run. I, personally, have never been a disciple of that "he will learnt from watching an older dog" mantra.

As has been said before work on his basic obedience first, socialise him as much as you can by that I mean walk amongst people and other animals, take him out lamping for say an hour tops but dont let him off the lead, dont walk him miles he needs to grow first.

If your only taking him out to watch,,make sure your mates dog is bang on ,on the lamp, good retrieve, good manners ,friendly,in fact 100% good all round lamping dog,,because your pup will not understand what the fook is going , but he will be watching your mates dog like a hawk,,

As I bred your pup, I would heed some advice here, the most important advice I can give you is as the last post, make sure that the dog he's with is fully on the button and only take him out for an hour and watch maybe 2 runs then get him back and work on the recall retrieve 3 times a day for 15 mins each session.

 

You have 8 or so years with the dog and it pays to take your time with them in the long run. Don't get frustrated and try to bring him on too quickly or he will go backwards mate.
