With the lamps charged and dogs at the ready, it was time to set off into the night. Well almost, see it's hard for me to leave a roaring fire, and even harder it seems for the dogs who lay on the rug

should of been in EDRD mate

Great post artic, and my thanks to you for a very good night's sport on excellent permission. It wasn't a big bag, but it was a lovely warm night out and there were some hilarious moments, the saluki

Happy Ferret, yes I know the dog your on about.

Johnny, cheers mate. Your right, sometimes we just have to chance whats there, and it's those nights I like, when you see your dogs really trying their best to catch.

Nice write up.

How much collie is in the collie cross?

Cheers Dan, the bitch is a 3/4 Greyhound, 1/4 Border collie from Hancocks Kubia Khan. She's a great dog to watch in action, and steady. I like her style of running, and her sharp pace.

Great post artic, and my thanks to you for a very good night's sport on excellent permission. It wasn't a big bag, but it was a lovely warm night out and there were some hilarious moments, the saluki x's first run being the highlight, where as you say, he caught the rabbit by crash-landing the full force of his body on top of the poor bunny as it sought refuge in the hedge!

Then on one of the deerhound x's runs I was holding the other two dogs when the rabbit came within feet of us, and I somehow managed to both punch myself in the nose and blind myself with the lamp while trying to keep a grip on the dogs as they lunged for the bunny.

I've mainly only seen collie x's run up to now, with their tendency to stalk as you say, so I really enjoyed seeing the styles of the two other dogs. I've heard of dogs with 'no reverse' before but that saluki x set a new standard for me by literally bodyslamming a rabbit into submission. Most interesting of all was the deerhound cross's habit of running off out of the lamp, leaving you wondering where on earth he's gone, before he smacked the rabbit side-on at full throttle.

I don't think much of the moustache you gave me in the photos though, you must try harder next time ;)

Joe, it was a pleasure, and many more excursions to come!

I'm in stiches reading your post  This is what its all about, not a numbers game, but having fun with good company.

There were some exciting runs from all the dogs. The quote of the night was "No Joe it's a bullet rifle"

:victory:
