SeanTheHawker 0
hope this all works out ok, ill write it in keeps style, narrated pics , have to split the thead due to number of pics Got up a little later than usual today, and not thinking id be able to hunt today I overfed rolf yesterday morning. Anyhow he weighed in at 1lb 7! Anyway I headed out anyway, hoping that he just hadn’t casted yet and was talking his time. Decided id try a little place that I hadn’t tried in a while , has the odd rabbit. Meant if rolf wasn’t responding the best, I wasn’t wasting good bolts. Erin go bragh(gary) also came only. It was his first hunting experience, and seemed to enjoy it. So we arrived at the land and set sail. As the song goes….the morning mist was on the valley Gary was kitted out for the cold, and handed the right tool for the job lol We got to the first set, ferret down, and within a minute or two the first rabbit bolted, rolf gave good chase along the treeline, caught it by the backside, held it for a few seconds, but so lost hold. then it changed tactics and headed to what we thought was the set again, only to run past our feet and get into a set behind us. As rolf landed on a post, a rabbit bolted at the far side of the trees, but rolf only seen it as it was approached another set. A picture of some of the land, the set was in the line of trees, at the right We continued on, done a few sets, but all of them were empty, or else to thick to try with the ferret. Then we started to walk through a bit of a bog, a rabbit got up way ahead of us, rolf tried hard, but didn’t get to it on time. Rolf hoping for a reflush We continued walking through the bog, and had a bti of fun with 2 or 3 snipe that got up near us. Rolf had no chance in hell of catching them, but it kept us occupied lol. Started tried more sets at this stage, but again empty, as I said before, only the odd rabbit here. Coming back to fist Picture was better when gary was calling him a while later Due to there nto being much action, I let rolf do a little following on, didn’t put anything else up, but it was nice to see him do it again, dont let him follow on very often. Spotted a lovely looking set, with fresh scratings and dirt around it, on the side of a little shuck. Ferret down, and after a few minutes a rabbit bolts, I was expecting it to run along the shuck, but no, it didn’t to jump across the shuck into the next field, under the fench, and a into the open, not sure where it was headed? But rolf caught it just after it had gotton through the fench. Lovely headshot. I quickly climbed down the bank, and crossed the shuck, not thinking it was that damp,(I was wrong) to go in and dispatch the rabbit. Gary waited for the ferret. No problem whatsoever with handling the ferret A little pic while rolf was feeding 2 very happy chappys Although we didn’t see much flights, I was one of the most enjoyable days out ive had in a few weeks now. Not one dig, and nice land and views to soak up. A quick pic at the car Quote Link to post
