kingoftoosh 15
Well i went to try a new bit of land the farmer let me onto ,he told me he was planting corn so it should be full of crows. Arrived bout 7 am and set up my camo net against a hedge.Set the gun up and put out a few crow deeks.i then enterd my hide. just as i sat down the cows as usual came over to investigate from the next filed. they crack me up ,they are like big friendly dogs. I got myself comfy by siiting on my gun bag ,gun poking out of net and then tried a few calls on my acme crow call.Brendon Lee eat your heart out,the crows came from all over flying overhead and making a hell of a racket. They circled while some landed in the tree to my side ,cawwing away ,but being drowned out by the furious chatter of a good few magpies.I saw one large crow land on a branch no more than 20 yds away from me so (I love it when a plan comes together)I put my eye to my scope but couldn't find the bloody bird, took my eye away + there it was on the same branch. so tried to put a bead on it but it wasn't a good enough image due to the poor light coming from behind the crow. SO i started looking for the maggies. Got the 1st one,it fell to the ground, then another straight away then the 3rd maggie came angrily looking to see what had happened to its mates,it shouldnt of bothered cos the same thing happened to it.3 shots in about a minute= 3 dead magpies. I then went a wander round the perimeter, something caught my eye in the next field,a guy hiding next to a bush with a lurcher on leash,I was so busy looking at him that i nearly walked into a guy hiding up against a tre with a shottie. Carried on then stopped when i heard walkie talkies,I thought it was the polis, but it was another boy with shotgun.turned out they were hunting fox.Double checked there was no one else with gun on my way. Then i looked round just in time to see a deer run across hte field.half expected to see the lurcher give chase or a shot to ring out,but it didnt happen so i thought it was time to move on. Spoke to farmer on way to next field and it turns out he hasn't planted the corn yet,so will be back next week for a crow bonanza. Arrived at barns and opened the door to the empty one only to find a wee collared dove sittin bout 15 yds from me,quietly backed back out the barn and moved my gun through a gap in the door got a perfect shot off right through the birds eye,it gave a few flaps of its wings then lay motionless. moved on round the perimeter of this field to come across a lone duck and then some crows and magpies chasing off a heron,if nothing else i seen more wildlife kickin about then usual. more was to come though ,a bloody pheasant made an awful lot of noise and moved pretty sharpish when i surpised it (+ me) when i nearly stood on it. To get my beating heart back to normal I picked a purple fruit from a bush to see what it was .So by giving it a gentle squueze I managed to squirt the juice right in to my left eye .I turned the air blue cos my eye started nipping and streaming like mad,so decided enough was enough+ started heading back to car. on the way i saw a woody fly into a tree bout 100 yds from me so i approached quietly ,+when i finaly got close enough i closed my mushy left eye and lined up my right one to the scope, could see that bird hadn't noticed me so i crouched for a steadier shot and let an AA field smash into the woodies right hand side of itys chest. It tumbled groundwards and twitched a bit beforwe dying. That was all for me ,I took out the mag and made my way home for some well deserved french toast.mmmmm 4 Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Nice one Kingoftoosh mate. Always good to read of what other lads have in way of permissions and how they get on. A good bag of birds on your first day out, Smashing stuff! You should see good bags of rabbits from those woods at the far end in the summers too. Sound like you got a squirt of juniper or wild Damson in your eye. Makes a lovely Jam! Cheers Simon Quote Link to post
