Can anything else go wrong?

Recommended Posts

Having a seriously bad time at the moment as some of you guy's know and shooting is just about the only thing that gets me out of the situation I find myself currently enduring.

I was hoping to get out last night again but my pump has been playing up for a little while; one of those things that you know will work out better, but its just too much agro to actually get your ass in gear and do it.

So anyway I decided that I would do it yesterday and I set about stripping, cleaning, servicing and replacing the seals on my pump. Got it back together and unknown to me I had obviously nipped the seal on the stem of the pump and while I was pumping it, it got to about 100 bar and then the seal went POP :censored:

So I let out the bleed valve and a little air released.

Unknown to me that the bullet valve at the base of the stem was shut tight and no air could come back through it, I proceeded to release the snap connector and inside the pipe was about 100 bar of compressed air BANG!!! went the sound as the pipe and connector shot out of my hand and nearly took off my face  I was in a kneeling position, I landed on my butt and elbows.

So after I had recovered from that ordeal I stripped it down again and found that the cap that holds the valve spring in place was in the base of the pump and not connected to the stem, obviously I hadn't tightened it enough

So after fecking about trying to get it just right for best part of all day and last night, I gave up in frustration and decided to continue this morning.

This morning comes and I set about it, took me all of 5 minutes to get right (amazing how easy it is to do something so simple whith a fresh set of eyes and mind).

I connected the pump to the gun and began with a few pumps, released the bleed valve and a hiss of air came out, I then carefully unscrewed the hose from the base as I didn't want it going bang again from the connector).

I was delighted to hear no air escape :good: so I carefully (as if expecting another bang) undid the snap connector, all was well :D

So I nipped up the hose again at the foot of the pump and reconnected the hose to my baby and began pumping in earnest :download:

Getting close to 175 bar, I suddenly noticed a long steady hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Damn it, seal must be leaking again or I'd not retightened the bleed screw. I got down on my hands and knees and to my astonishment, the noise was comming from the area of the snap connector. I must have damaged it when it blew off yesterday

Bleed valve again open and a large rush of air, I unclipped the connector and looked down it to see if there was any obvious signs of damage. Nothing jumping out at me and I remember thinking "Not exactly a lot to go wrong is there? and whats that noise now?"

I put my head down to the gun and sure enough the noise got louder the closer I put my ear to the air cylinder.

AWWWW FFS :cray: I ran my hand around the brass where it joins they cylinder and I could feel a strong jet of air against my hand. :cray:

Can anything else happen to go wrong today?

Now I'm going to have to revert to my springer until I can get whats needed to perform the surgery on my baby

Unfortunately, my trigger finger is so badly split at the moment I cant use it on my beast as it has a very stiff pull weight.

So I am now going to have to go back to the very begging with my springer and learn to shoot it with my middle finger acting as trigger finger (the only one not split) and we all know how 'Hold Sensitive" a springer is don't we.

I feel so friggin low at the moment Icould :cray:

Phantom. Get that gun and pump to a GUNSMITH Before you try anything more, as it sounds to me like you had a narrow escape keeping your fingers in one place! A prime reason why I will never waste my money on PCPs! Sorry Gentlemen but the spring powered TX200s and HW80s I have don't go blowing my bonce off, or leak or fizz and hisss before taking my finger ends off!

Really hope this all works out for you mate. It sounds like you could do with a bit of good luck!

Many thanks for the replies guy's

Especially to Red and Darryl :notworthy: :notworthy:

I've just replied to Red via PM

I have decided that, this is a prime time to get my Beast out and reaquaint myself with her then get myself out again for some very much needed springer practice

I've got the pump sorted properly now  Just needed to find the compromise point between letting the air out to bleed and not having it too tight.

Just need to get myself the correct spanner in order to fix the leaking air cylinder now  I used to have one that will do the job perfectly, but its burried somewhere either in the back of one of the sheds or in the back of what used to be the coal house (full of Junk)

So a trip to Hull next week will see me purchasing a new one, that will go into my Smithing kit :gunsmilie:

I was very down yesterday and have been for quite a while (I get like that sometimes and it takes a while to get out of it) However like I said (Big, Bright, Loud, U.S. T.V. commercial voice) its 'Springer Time' :boogie: for a whille and then I will take a leaf out of Davy's book and alternate each week (he does calibre's) I will do springer / pcp :D

All the best Gent's
